Great shine on this A2 on eBay

Mmmm - no feedback and says very little of substance about the car. Reckon that's why it's had to be relisted. ICE kit that just happens to be in an A2 box.

OK - so I'm a pessimistic so & so - but I think it's 'iffy'.

As an aside, I plan to Diamondbrite my newly bought (2002) Cobalt Blue A2 myself.

Had this done on my own 3 series coupe from the dealer and subsequently, bough the kit myslef and trated the other 3 series compact in the family. I'd definately recommend this as it eliminates the need for ever waxing.

I'd be happy to offer experiences and my own know-how to other members considering this treatment over waxing, etc.

very interesting

Hi im333

I am thinking on cleaning up my newly purchased A2, I've been looking at website specialists that sell cleaning products.
I am quite dazled as for how many choices there are out there.
I want it to look clean and polish and with the a minor amount of scratches, but don't really want to spend a whole week at it. Maybe a day or two.

Would you be able to fill me in a bit more, about this cleaning method?!
This is all I could find about it:

Thanks a mill

Diamondbrite is a kind of paint sealant. Use t-cut before applying to remove oxidation. The kit comes as a 2 stage process and once finished (an afternoon's work) you never need to wax the car again. You wash your car with it's own shampoo weekly or so, and apply it's conserver (mix a bit in wash bucket and wipe over) every couple of weeks.

I have it on 3 of the household's cars and the A2 will be the 2nd one I'll have applied it to. Dealer's charge around £200- it's all labour. I bought 2 kits to apply to the A2, so 1 is spare - let me know if you want to buy it from me.

Shiny A2

Since new I have been quite sad and polished my A2 nearly every week. The best to use are 'Mer', or 'Muck Off' polishes, and to finish off use something like Tutle wax gloss guard. This on its own brings out a deep shine. Dont forget to put some tyre gel on the wheels, as this also makes the car look like new. I will post some pics of my Shiny example soon, currently its a bit muddy!!

Mer is good, as far as polishes go; it also removes oxidised paintwork so it's like a 2-in-1.

Trust me, Diamondbrite is on a whole other level though! It gives a permanently waxed feel.

Check out my above links.

You want to use meguairs, sonus, chemical guys, clearkote products. Victoria wax is the best value for money wax.

I have enough cleaning kit to last a few years, lol :D

Loads of choices.

@manhattan$: Thanks a lot for the links I had already the Cleanyourcar one from one of your previous threads. Didn't really knew there was a forum out there for detailers. Didn't thought was that big.
I clean you car I found this Sonus kit for £30:

What do you think, buiyng it this way all one make is it recommended:

@im333: That sounds great, would it be possible to post some pictures of one of the cars, prefebably of your A2.
I would be really interested in that spare kit, how much are you selling it for? ;)
You mentioned just waxing, but being it a 2 process method, I guess you don't really need to clay the car, before applying the wax...Does that minor residue gets removed at any point?

@phil pk: Can't wait to see those pics. Where do you get you tyre gel from, and do they stay clean for a while, or you have to reply it every so often.

Thanks a mill

Use AutoGlym colour restorer or simple t-cut to 'prepare' the paintwork. The better the finish the better the result, as your are effectively 'sealing' the paintwork with a tough, hard coat. Check out the manufacturer's site for all details: http://www.jewelultra.com/

I bought a pair of kits, so half would come to around £30. Let me know if you want it, else I'll probably save it for my next car :)

You really need a machine polisher and some menzerna intensive polish to get a better finish.

Audi paint is very hard and even with a machine polisher it would take a full day to do correctly.

Zymol polish is also a very good one I use regularly. Any with the carbunara wax (or however its spelt!) are the best to use and usually have a pleasant smell!

Niiice

WOW! Phil, the car looks just out of the Show room. Great shine.
Can't wait to have mine looking like that.

It would be great, if you or maybe manhattan, could do a detailed description with pictures of the overall washing, polish and waxing and what you used for the plastics and windows.
Maybe even interior if it's not asking too much.

I've been to www.detailingworld.com and I can find every single car but not the A2, I know the method it's the same, I recon it would just help and encourage, people like myself that want to try they're hand at a bit of detailing.

The car looks great, and it seems like it took a lot of time to detail.

Shine

Hi Peter, thanks, your black A2 should be able to get a great shine. Shame your so far away as would have come to help!! Anyways hope this helps...

Dont know how to add a link, so its here!! My main tip is when you apply the wax, open doors and wax the edges, this allows you to get a 'sparkle'

Bodywork
If very dirty a quick rinse with water, best to use a watering can to rinse off loose dirt.

Start off with a good Shampoo, many around, at the moment using Turtle wax shampoo, add this to warm warter, I find this helps to clean and shine the car. Don't use hot water although sometimes in the winter a bit warmer than normal is ok as it helps to keep your hands warm.

Wax
Again MANY around, basically use one with 'carnauba wax' usually smells like bananas. I use Zymol, mer, and also pleased with 'MuckOff'. Usually more expensive, the better. Leave on for at least 10-20 mins make sure it doesn't rain - get a cup of tea!

Polish off with dry soft cloth, microfibre is quite good, but can use white polishing cloths etc. Finish off with gloss guard - autoglym, turtlewax etc if needed. then with a dry cloth, and a houseplant spray with water, quickly go round the car using the mist, and quickly dry off the water (microfibre time!) This sometimes helps to 'set' the polish.

Once you give your car a good wax 1-2 hrs should b ok for an A2, a weekly shampoo is normaly enough. However a quick wax, or gloss gaurd now and then to keep the shine saves time in the long run. I have just got Turtle wax ICE, quite good for a very quick deep shine in between main waxes.

I uasully give my car a Good clean with jet wash 2-3 times a year. Get the spray under the wheel arches, and underneath AVOID THE PARKING SENSORS. Also dont use it too much on the main bodywork. You can also be suprised by the amount of dirt behind the side rubbing strips, the water jet removes this dirt, but be careful with your paint! I give the car a GOOD polish 1-2hrs about 5 times a year, and the rest of the time either a quick wash, and sometimes followed by a quick polish 10-20 mins.

Tyres
At the moment have just used Nano Tyre gel, using an old paint brush (could use a piece of sponge) and small bowl - best is an old lid from spray paint can (or similar)or the top from a kitchen/bathroom cleaner.

Plastics
Plastic parts have just been washed, used my jet wash today (ony do this 2 times a year) usuall I either use just turtle wax shampoo, or a trim shine product such as Auto Glym, or Halfords. These are liquids so I apply with a bit of kitchen towel, and basically if you get it too shiny, you can easily take some off with a dry piece of kitchen towel.

Glass
Usually use Rain X or Clear view. Yellow bottle bout £6. It beads the water so you usually dont need the wiper! Just used Autoglym's glass polish this time as none left!

I will get pics of interior soon, but having problem keeping my driver seat clean. Its not too bad but looks a bit dull on the edges compared to the others!
