Green air filters / induction kits

Where is the best place to source a green air filter from?

I was thinking about an induction kit too, but locating it in the original air box to keep it away from engine heat and fit some ducting to feed cold air.

What do you guys think?

Cheers,
paul.

Hi Paul
If you are looking for performance improvements I suspect you would be disappointed. I saw in another thread you are considering a Stealth remap so why not talk through your induction mods with Vince. He may have dyno tested a few systems and can probably give you a realistic answer and advise if they are worth the money.

Cheers Spike

Hi Spike.....
Thanks for the reply.

Its just that i was going to change the air filter when i find an A2, so spending another £20 on something like a green filter would be a better choice.

I will probably have a chat to Vince when the time comes to remap.

Cheers,
Paul.

There is another side benefit to filters such as the K&N - they are 'greener' in that you buy one filter and it'll last the life of the car, so less waste.

Washing is done with hot soapy water and all you then need is a light re-oiling and Bob's your uncle!

Cheers,

Mike

Having had a long chat with vince and his technician while at Stealth last week, their opinion was 'performance' filters / induction kits won't give you any kind of worthwhile power gain.

Also, on exhuast systems (on the 75 bhp) a larger bore pipe will reduce torque - the bigger the pipe the lower the torque. I found this suprising but have some time off this week so I'm going to do some reading up

The cost of the remap was £265 inc vat for A2 forum members by the way.

There are numerous free tools on the internet for you to calculate the required air-flow at specific rpm of your engine. Using that figure, you can find a filter material with the air-box's surface area, then calculate if the filter is giving enough flow. Most custom filter systems I know of that actually works are for high rpm when the std filter is perhaps restricting. With a low reving diesel, you shouldn't find air filter a restricting factor, nor should the A2 petrol engines, we're not talking 7000rpm+ here!

However, doing a ram air type induction system may have different impact, as it changes the pressure differential. But only a before/after RR map can proof it has any effect.

However, the ram air effect will not be very evident on a rolling road, even with the fans that are used, there's nothing like the same airflow as there is on the road.

Cheers,

Mike

having read thru many of the current threads regarding variuos performance improvements (exhausts, air filters etc) it appears to me the law of diminishing returns (expenditure v performance gains) is reached sooner on the '75' than the '90'. Beyond a re-map and de-cat it seems there is very little to be gained irrespective of the amount spent. Even the de-cat does not seem do much for engine output as such, it appears from what has been written it mainly improves 'drivability'. Is this a fair summary? I have a re-map and K&N on my 75 and may go down the de-cat route when funds/income allows and am interested in other members experience/observations.
