Hi

I bought an A2 1.6 FSI. It was a bit of an impulse purchase as I need a run around to replace an old diesel golf with something that is economical and ULEZ compliant.

I don’t really know anything about cars but was pleasantly surprised to find this forum (after putting down to deposit) and so much enthusiasm for a car I hadn’t even heard about a few days ago.

Welcome to A2Land. The FSI is much more than a run about, it's a "state of the art" (circa 2000), thorough bred. You are the custodian of an example of the peak of A2 development.
I may be a tad biased however ...
Mac.

Welcome to the forum :) As well as the A2 in general, you will find plenty of advice about the FSI on here - there's plenty to know, they are complex engines! Read away, and ask plenty of questions, we all like to help if we can. Hope your new purchase is enjoyable and rewarding ?

Welcome to the club.

Now here is a list of 4 items that should be at the top of your priority list before adding to the car....

Have at LEAST 2 FULLY working remote keys.
At a minimum VCDS Lite and an ebay KKL lead running on a windows XP-10 laptop.
A good electrical test meter preferably the loop clamp type.
The users manuals as they contain important information and answer most questions.

IMPORTANT you MUST run these FSI engine cars on PREMIUM GRADE 98 / 99 unleaded and NOT E10 fuel .

Greetings and hope you have a good one

Did you buy privately or from a dealer? Any pictures?

Does sound like you might be, just a touch ?

Thanks.

I got from a dealer and it was all on an impulse. I may have bitten off more than I would have chosen to chew if I had thought it through.

But in the other hand I look forward to the adventure and learning.

I am a bit Mac bound so is there anything for that o/s.

I have two keys but I can only use them manually at the moment

Will post pictures later

Not Mac compatible but a cheap second hand laptop that runs Windows XP-10 and has a USB port is all that is required for VCDS.

Seriously before you start spending on other items completing my list will save you money.

Not judging only trying to help you get the best experience you can and make diagnosing issues quicker / cheaper.

Take heed of my fuel type warning.

If you have enough free space and not much better to do with it you can install BootCamp, which will make a Windows partition alongside your current one and will allow you, upon boot, to select which OS you boot into by holding Alt, which means you have Windows when you need it and when you don't you won't ever even notice it's there (bar the disk space taken up by it, of course).

But bear in mind, it is not compatible with the new M1 Macs, so hopefully you have an Intel Mac to do this with.

@audifan is spot on. The two Vs, VCDS & V Power?
Mac.

Welcome aboard.

A highly recommended outfit who fully understand these cars is B&F Autos in Hounslow West. Gary is the man to talk to and they will give the vehicle a very thorough inspection and report so you know exactly where you are. Very reasonable prices to boot. On the whole these little cars don't take kindly to" yer average garridge " . Please don't even think of running on anything less than E5 99 Octane petrol. I use Tesco.

Best of luck, and look forward to hearing more your new machine

Thanks again for all your advice.

I have bought a cheap windows 10 laptop and ordered an eBay KKL lead. Any recommendations for a good electrical test meter preferably the loop clamp type?

Also the keys only work manually in the actual lock. Do I need to replace them?

I’ll get in touch in touch with Gary.

By the by just in case are there any recommended mechanics in a South East London area? I live in SE21

Andrew

A quick update.

I have uploaded a couple photos. (need to work out how to upload to a photo server to post more.)

Also carried out and autoscan on VCDS-Lite and now need to decipher the log. Is it appropriate to post the log on this site to help work out what it's saying?

Taking her to see Gary on Saturday morning for a quick check over.

I did add a Connects 2 for Bluetooth but have now lost sound from the rear speakers.

Also I replaced batteries in the key fob but still not working electronically.

Yes post the VCDS Lite result here but advisable to remove your VIN number before you post it.

You have probably disconnected some wiring or it is loose.

After replacing the batteries in the remotes you have to resync them to the car. Open car, sit in close the door ignition on to warning lights and press the unlock button on the remote. Turn off take keys out get out and close the door. Try to lock the car on the remote. Then unlock and open the door. Repeat with the other key. Hopefully this will resync the keys. If it did not work confirm the last letter(s) on your CCCU and the part number of the remote half of the keys, specifically if it ends with the letter D or nothing after the numbers.

Loss of rear sound is probably down to the connects2. The most likely is no 12 volt out to switch the rear amp on (it is permanently powered, but needs a low current output to kick it out of standby). Take the radio out, and on the pin out lable you'll a switch symbol (see pic). I'd guess that the adaptor has no wire in that position. If so, go back to. Connects2.
Mac.

PS: Pic is from Chorus II. Other Audi radios are similar.

Tried the pairing with keys but that didn't work. Will post the CCCU number later.

The log minus VIN number is attached.

Using VCDS again clear the faults then perform a fresh scan. That will then only produce current faults and post that.
