H7/H3 LED bulbs

As the title suggests, bulbs talk.

Was browsing and came across them, you can get H3 for main beam and H7 for use in the fog units.

Are they legal, and would they actually produce a decent amount of light, or is it another crazy invention to come out of China!!

John

hi John how spooky a few weeks ago robin came down to stay for the weekend and whilst chatting over diner he said "oh you must see my new led main beams!" well a few wines later it was all forgotten about------------------------------- till this weekend
we went up to see them and after we had eaten he said come and have a look at them LEDs--ooh the excitement as i am a fan of LED's
are they any good?.................er no they have a very good match for hid dipped beam 6k's in colour but light output is very low.standing in front of the car the high beams just merged into the dipped beam no long range illumination or in fact dazzle.i reckon you could drive around with high beam on with no risk of upsetting anyone. must admit that since i had my hids fitted 18months ago i never use high beam even down country roads.
so in my opinion led sidelights are great but high beam/fogs not yet.must admit i use them for reversing lights and they work great with plenty of rear illumination.
have fun mike

Interesting.

You dont happen to know what LED cluster size he had??

As the ones I have seen range from 9 SMD LED's up to 36, so this would ideally affect overall intensity.

ideally you need to know what LEDs they are using, how many of them and at what current they are being driven at. Then you can roughly work out the amount of light available before being reflected by the reflector. With what I've seen, (Pummy, your toys) any meaningful LED replacement for main bulb needs a few amperes of current through some of the latest LED designs. Heat sink is also an issue in that sort of configuration. In short, I wouldn't even bother.

The Audi LED headlamp replacement is a cluster of custom LEDs projecting directly forward through a lens. Not anything like a H7/H3 replacement
