Handbrake warning light flashing

Hi, has anybody had a problem with the Handbrake warning light on the dashboard flashing on and off continiously when the handbrake is released.
The front brake pads and discs have been changed and the brake fluid has been replaced with 1 litre of Dot 4 fluid. Please note, no other warning light comes on.eg No ABS or low fluid (!),or orange pad low and no beeping sound is heard..Audi have looked at it and said it was the handbrake switch.bought a new one and fitted it.fault still the same...also flashing starts to become erratic after a while and eventually the flashing will stop. But if the car is left for an hour or so it starts flashing again!!! I have run out of ideas...other than change the dashboard, but I believe this is expensive (audi quoted £500) and they couldn't be sure this was the problem. Any help would be Good!! The brakes are ok and all operate as they should inc abs.ps.changing the brake light switch is easy and took 20mins having not done one before.they cost £3 .Audi dealer was going to charge £95.+parts.Pull the handbrake grip off.then the plastic cover, pull the other cover up that has the 12v socket in it and it's located under there towards the front of the handbrake lever.
