I bought my A2 almost a month ago and joint the forum almost immediately after this, but haven’t got round to say Hi which I'd like to do now :)
My is 2005 Silver TDI 90 Sport with 72k on the clock and I managed to get it just slightly under £5.5k.
I've got only one key with it and I would very much appreciate any advice on the most cost efficient way to get second one just in case I lose this one.

P.S. There is no way to choose 2012 as a purchase year when registering to the forum.

Hi and welcome to the A2oc and A2 ownership.

You are not far from me. It's nice to get local members:)

For your key you need special kit to be able to do this. There are two members who can do this for you. Skipton01 In Manchester or Sarge786 in London

Welcome to the Forum and ownership. Just to add to what David posted you can fit the newer style key (not push in key) but the ones that are still used on the TT and A3, you can get these keys off Ebay and then you just get the blade part cut to fit your car, you can't use the blade from your old key as its too long so will not fold away ;). If you go down this route best PM one of the two mentioned as they should be able to tell you mhz of the key you need

Thanks for advice. I am wondering, apart from different look, what is the advantage in having the newer style key.

It's hard to describe but the ridges around the buttons are higher, so there is less chance that you will accidentally press one of the buttons when the keys are in your pocket.

It's mostly just an aesthetic difference. As David says, the plastic ridges between the buttons are more pronounced and so the risk of accidentally pressing the buttons is reduced. However, I use the older style keys and have never found this to be a problem. As you're looking for a second key for peace of mind, I'd suggest style is of little importance.

Cheers,

Tom
