Finally found a sibling to my A7!

Hello,
Yesterday I bought an 2003 A2 1,6 FSI. I have been looking for a A2 with the right options for some time, and finally I found it.
IT is a 2003 1,6 FSI with it most important options:
  • 1,6 litre engine
  • Top View
  • S-line
  • (dark) Cobalt Blue
  • Black part skinn
  • ACC
  • Alarm
  • Cruise Control
  • PDC
  • And In good condition

Biggest dissapointment so far is the lame engine, it does not give credit to the car. I really need to improve it.
But I also have a long list of modifications:
  • Heated Seats
  • Rebuild the Headlights to Projector HID Driving lights
  • New 17 S-line Wheels, today equipped with RS3 18” alloys. (on the picture it is equipped with winter wheels)
  • Towing Hitch
  • Better Speakers and a Concert ll head unit (today standard speakers today and a Blaupunkt Travelpilot head unit)

On the wish list:
  • Try to install a Heated Steering wheel from A4

Thats about it!
The plan is to have the A2 as a shopping car and replace my Mini Clubman.

Hi and WELCOME!!!

If you think the 1.6 A2 engine is lame then there could be a few reasons

They need to be revved, they work better in the higher rev range.
Could it be that it only APPEARS to be lame when compared to your A7?
But I wouldn't mind betting that your engine may have one or two of the usual problems with the 1.6 engine? It would be worth having it scanned for faults, I wouldn't mind betting that you have a few error codes relating to the engine.
The 1.6 A2 is NOT a slow car, it is not a race car either but it certainly isn't slow.

Check the threads on here and you may pick up some clues as to what is happening.

Have fun.

Thanks for the reply,
Yes I am about to connect VCDS today and hopefully there are some error codes that are the root cause to the behaviour. I really love the car and will do what it takes to get is enjoyable to drive.

I have a 1.6 FSI (in fact I have two!) they are not slow cars if the engine is running OK. Should keep up with most golf GTI type things and actually quicker off the mark due to weight in many cases. Lovely if fussy engines.

VCDS gave no indicator to the lame motor. Only one error code related to the Engine:

17428 - Fuel Pressure Regulation Control Range Exceeded
P1020 35-10 - - Intermittent
Readiness: 0000 0000

Must be the low Torque. I have 400Nm in the Mini Cooper (stage 1). But I really love the A2 and the goal is to sell it in favour of the A2!

That error code is related to the fuel pressure and so may well be contributing to the power problems.
It would be worth clearing the error code and seeing if it returns, it may be a very old message.

Are you using a genuine VCDS set up? They tend to catch more error codes than VCDS "light".

Steve B

Correct I have the genuine Ross-tech cable and the full SW.
I will erase the error log to see if it will come back. Meanwhile I will give it an Oil service and flush and clean the engine. Bye bye to Long oil intervals!

I they are "no name" vinter wheels with stud tires. Will also be replaced with Genuine Audi Wheels, but first the sommer wheels. In Sweden we need to have vinter tires which are soft and not suitable for summertime.
