Has anyone installed a 3rd Party Sub + Amp to their A2?

I've had a look around searching on here but I can't find anything for what I need.
The general vibe is keep in OEM or install Bose, but i've got kit from a previous car that I want to install.

Is there anyone that can give me info or point me to a thread on help installing this ICE in an A2. where the best ground is and how they ran cables etc.

It's a Sony 500W amp going with a one or two of 12" subs, with an alpine head unit. My other line of questions is replacing speakers in the car. on the manual i have it oesn't say what size speakers but might upgrade them also at some point.

Any help would be much apreciated as a stereo is one of the top priorities. I can't speak to the mrs forever on a journey ;)

My advise is ... don't waste your time. I had a similar requirement when I started out on Baby Boomer, but because the normal door speakers are no standard size whatsoever, and you can't get off the peg adaptors for them you're really stuck with BOSE... but what a BOSE. Once I tried this option out I was immediately stuck with just how good it sounded. When I compared it to how much it was going to cost to fabricate custom door pods etc. it came out much cheaper to just install the BOSE.

That's a fair point!
To be honest i've not looked in to Bose costs. I might forget the speaker replacements in that case and just stick with wiring a sub and amp in along with the head unit. Who needs boot space anyway!!!

I confess, I'm a bit of a Bass head, I have a Sony bluetooth head unit wired to a sub with built in amp and it sounds great! only got front door speakers connected as well.
The cables are run along the sills under the plastic covers and the best ground would be directly onto battery in boot where I assume your amp will be located?

Thanks for that!
The Amp will be in the boot it's mounted on the side of the sub box housing already, if i didn't already have stuff i would probably go Bose. Alas i don't and money being an issue I'll use what i have. I'm sure i'll be asking again about the ground for it all but will give it a go carefully first.

I've been looking at getting an 8 guage wiring kit suitable for 1k Watt amp and saw a cool addition of fast clips from Vibe Audio that allows you to quickly disconnect the amp/sub should you want the extra boot space temporarily.

I'll get that ordered now and think about fitting it all this weekend then.

That sounds reasonable. I think the main issue you are likely to come across is the "remote" feed, as there doesn't seem to be anything in the standard system. You could run something from the ignition I suppose.

The Alpine head unit will no doubt have a remote out, or an electric Ariel out which will also work.

Modern amps do not need a remote feed. The Mosconi amp in my BM only needs a permanent live and neutral, it wakes up when it gets voltage through the line or speaker cables from the head unit.

@OldSchool That does looks good!!
With regards to the remote feed i've bout some piggyback fuses which i'll tap in to and use that for the amp and head unit. I'll probably get as far as I can and then have to call the fire brigade or one if one of my mates knows how to do it enlist them for moral support!

bits get delivered tomorrow so will hopefully be a job for Saturday!
