Head Unit Security Code Question

I have a question on head unit security codes.

I bought a cheap A3 Concert II to plunder the buttons to upgrade the worn buttons on my A2 project car. Buttons have been swapped between units and I thought It makes sense to sell on the A3 unit.

Before I do I want to check it is fully functioning. I have the code for the A3 unit and thought I could pop it into the project A2 to test. I do not have the code for the A2 unit.

My worry is that when I enter the code for the A3 unit it will set the CCCU(?) to this code and I will not be able the put the A2 unit back until I have spent money buying the A2 code.

Have I got this correct?

My nearby Audi dealer entered my code for free after I replaced my battery...

They should do it for free...

Hi,

as far as I am aware its the radio that remembers where it was unlocked by reading the VIN from the ECU. If it powers up in a car with a different VIN it asks for the code. The car doesn't know or mind what radio is connected.

You should be able to power up the A3 unit in your car to test without affecting your other head unit.
