Headlamp Bolts

Hi, would anybody know the part numbers for the headlamp bolts, the one nearest the radiator please.
I have read some previous posts, when I have gone to the link it takes me somewhere strange.
Thanks in advance for any information.

The one nearest the radiator is: N0147495
The one toward the back of the headlight is: N90683302 (I think)

There are two part numbers for the long lower bolt listed as possibles on the relevant z7ap page

N0147495 - size M6x 40mm (also uses a washer with part number N01166615)

N10483101 - size M6x 50mm

Looking at the silly prices for these on Ebay, I would be inclined to purchase them from the stainless fixings place I used to use for rowing boat parts - https://www.a2a4.com/acatalog/SOCKET-SCREW-SECTION.html at 30-40 pence each in the 40-50mm length - may still need a penny washer though.

I'm assuming you have at least one bolt at present to determine what bolt length you have. Check that and then ask one of the breakers here to sell you a usable pair of the same length.

Apply a dab of oil or rust preventative to the head of the bolt to prevent the severe rusting that often affects them - I use Waxoyl.

The vast majority of the headlights are the later model which require the 50mm bolt. I don't know whether it's safe to use the 50mm bolt with the earlier lights I'm afraid.

More importantly apply some anti seize to the threads of the long bolt to prevent it jamming in the captive nut. Real pain if they seize, snap or spin the captive nut. TBH 40 or 50mm makes no real difference but use a washer to lock the bolt head against the unused plastic adjusting block.
I put a blob of hot melt glue into torx recess to seal it from the weather.

It is also possible to cut 5mm of the plastic adjusterthing in the light-housing, and by doing this, you can keep using the 40mm bolt.

I have done that twice when replacing the entire headlight; and both cars have passed MOT so no problem.

@Robin_Cox thanks for the recommendation I used the company you recommended (a2a4.com) and they were very helpful and quick. I bought the 60mm ones and they fitted fine for the lower light bracket on our 2002 1.4 petrol. I think the upper bracket bolts are 20mm though and my original ones are OK for now....

good to hear! I was using them well before I had an A2, mind you...

The lower mounting bolt on the passenger headlight is sheared on mine . Didn't notice when buying the car a few months ago as initially I thought it was the headlamp as the bracket was also sheared off it. Got another headlight for 20quid but now need to deal with this bolt. It's sheared almost flush into the front crash bar . Presume there's a captive nut inside that that it mounts into ? I haven't stripped off the front end to have a proper look yet but any easy solutions to removing the bolt that's stuck there ?

Before you try anything soak the bolt for a few days repeatedly in a good release agent like Plusgas. If you can grab the remaining part with a good pair of mole grips go for that, and turn the bolt to tighten slightly the undo but only very little until you see some movement, then apply more release agent. If unable to use mole grips then CAREFULLY drill the bolt and use the biggest ez out you can fit into the bolt, be gentle and do not break the ez out. If that fails progressively drill bigger until you can run a tap into the thread. Not a fun job. Once you hopefully get the old bolt out apply some anti seize to the threads to make it easier to come out and slow down the corrosion of the bolt. I also put a blob of hot melt glue in the head of the bolt to seal that afterwards, easily removed when you need to remove the headlight bolt in the future.

Ok thanks. Bolt has sheared flush so nothing protruding to try and get mole grips on . Feared it was going to be a case of drilling it out .

Hi if they are M6 the tapping drill size is 5.0mm dia & if M5 it’s 4.2mm you will then be able to re-tap M6.
Hope that helps.

Brilliant . Thanks for that .
Centre pot the middle of the sheared bolt & start with say a 3mm dia drill to get started, if you’ve soaked the item with a penetrating solution overnight you may well find the the offending section will unscrew as the drill descends into it .
