Headlamp lens polishing

My A2's headlamp lens are still clear and crisp but stone chips and road dirt has left a lot of marks. Has anyone got a good process to repolish it? I only have a mouse sander which I doubt it is of any use for this exercise, but is there any recommendation for small polishing kit fitted to an electric hand drill instead?

Thanks Alan, I've repaired a little scratch on the lens where my wife hit it (long story). But I'm really looking at full lens polishing on my other car and so I want to practice on the A2 first.
