Headlamp surround rubbers

That's right. The bottom side is un-covered on all A2 headlights AFAIK. I've certainly never seen one with a rubber seal for the underside.

Did I post the correct partnumber or not? 7zap lists those numbers which suggest left and right being sequential, but the catalogue diagram is vague

The original rubber surrounds do cover the bottom as well, the only reason I know this is because I've just had both headlights out to refurb the lenses and one headlight had the replacement plastic seal which doesn't cover the bottom and the other has the original rubber that goes around the entire surround of the headlight.

Every day's a school day ? Thanks, I'll remember that.

The headlights are a sealed unit. The rubber is purely cosmetic to fill the panel gap between the headlight and bonnet.

Later models had the rubber that cover the top and sides only and tends to fair better than the early softer rubber surround.

I'd have to agree with that, one side has been replaced with the plastic trim and the original rubber is splitting and will have to be replaced soon.
