Headlight beam kick up. MOT

Hi

Strange thing today. Took my A2 for an MOT today and got a call from the examiner saying that everything in the car was good other than the Headlight beam kick up on the offside light was wrong. He told me my offside light looks as if it’s a European light as the kick up is pointing to the right rather than the left.

The examiner was kind enough to show me the light on test machine. The offside headlight does look newer than the other one strange how it’s a European one.

I know some vehicles have adjustment for this but can’t see anything in the A2. I did a search on the forum and google and can’t find anything on adjustment for the A2.

I’ve bought a second hand light from eBay and should be delivered on Saturday but it’s Easter weekend so it might be delayed slightly.

I’ve got he usual 10 days for a free retest so hopefully I’ll get it back in next week. Will update later.

Hi,

there isn't any adjustment on the A2 headlight. The eurpean LHD headlights have a different shaped mirror behind the bulb which causes the beam shape.
If the LHD headlight has a good lens and you can manage to take the headlight apart you can swap the grey plastic part from say a second hand RHD headlight which has a degraded lens. Its not easy taking the headlights apart however.

You can tell by the part number if a headlight is LHD or RHD : 8Z2 = RHD, 8Z1 = LHD.
If the part number isn't shown, the back of the mirror has embossed writing which identifiers which side it is for. This post includes pictures:
