Last week one of my dipped beams popped.
I was suspicous of the fact that that unit is always fogged up in the morning. I went to the dealer a couple of time but it was always within specs and there was nothing they could do about it.
Since I use Philips VisionPlus new bulbs are quite expensive.

So I downloaded the guide and removed the units. To my suprise the foggin one is missing it's cover on the back. The cover to keep the moist and the water out. In fact when I turned the unit there was even water in it.

That explains why it's always fogged up....

I also took the chance to install Philips Nightguides and Philips Silvervison indicators. Pictures will follow.

Very interesting! Mines fogged up again I notice - I will definitely have to remove the bonnet and have a look now. Did you need to purchase a new cover?

No, my whole light needs replacement. It was full of water, sand and even dead flies....

Do they not fog up due to the temperature difference between internal & external surfaces - similar to how single glazing in your home condensates on the inside when warmer than the outside?
Have noticed that mine mist-over occasionally, usually following me rinsing the car off with cold water from the hosepipe.

Yes, but the cover prevents moist air from getting in. And there is a filter that allows any moist to get out. Since my cover is missing when the temp drops the moist gets in and condensates.
The good one can't condensate very much since the moist air can't get in.

The fact that there's sand in the lamp (not to mention the dead flies) indicates that it's not that isolated anymore.

Interestingly the A3 headlights are fine.......................
but........................
the fog lights mist badly (fog up , he he snigger)
Took them out and rubbed 'dum dum' ok I'm old around the apparently sealed join between glass and shell and......................
Presto - two months on no mist!
Dealer offered to 'dry them out' but NOT replace as per Audi directive. OK though a better job (I believe) by mea and all for an hour's pottering which meant not trip to Tesco.
Shame.

I miss Tesco's!!! Dont go there anymore, as wife has converted to Asda. I use it as an excuse not to go now, and she understands - lol

I don't use Tescos, cos they will not take any action to ensure that only disabled use the disabled bays, totally disinterested. Head Office say they don't know how to solve the problem, so I spend my 500quid a month elsewhere. They should worry already!
