Headlights restored

So I ordered 600 grit and 2500 grit sandpaper to wet sand my headlights as they looked terrible. I started by removing the headlights to work on as it allows you to get to the edges properly and not risk scratching the paintwork. Then I washed the entire headlight and back case, followed with warm soapy water and 600 grit, once I had a smooth surface I moved to the 2500 grit. After the surface was completely smooth I dried it off and used megs ultimate compound which brought the clarity back and finished with liquid wax to protect the light. Very pleased with the results.

Is that what you used?
Im just about ready to do the final stage after using 800 wet and dry, then 2500 wet and dry but was led to believe that I need a 2K lacquer.

I think there are two methods.
1: Finish with a something like Meguiars, and then wax.
2: Finish with 2500 grit, then lacquer, then polish the lacquer with something like Meguiars, and don't wax.
I went with option 2 on the TT, and three years later, they're still good.
If you go with option 1, then a regular re-wax would be wise, to maintain protection.
Option 2, using lacquer will provide better protection, as the lacquer is thicker and harder than wax.

Thanks Mac.
The lens at the moment is very cloudy, and I did try some standard cheap lacquer and it went clearish but I wasn't happy so rubbed it down again.
The cheapest 2k lacquer I can find is around £17.00 for 400 ml. So that maguires at £12.00 would be the cheaper option and no need to wait for it to harden.

Something that I am going to do next. I have a spare set of headlights from a breaker that I will practice on. I’m more interested in getting as good a quality finish as is possible and how long it will last. If all doesn’t go as well as I would like I will just end up investing in some brand new ones.

Only get what you pay for and should last for years. I got a few spare motors too. Or remove them from your old headlights if they still work that is. ?

Yes that's the stuff, after using the 2500 grit the megs will smooth out and clear the rest, I did my by hand and the results show for themselves, you could do 3000 grit and then megs or similar compound and the results may be even better.
Lacquer is not so good with the cheap stuff and will tend to leave the dreaded orange peel affect but the 2k is what I'd go for, to be honest I already had the megs and did want the extra expense or hassle, that said it works either way so it's all down to personal choice.

Reading the advert with my usual cynical eye, can't help noticing that they are for "right hand traffic". Reckon traffic on right =driver on left.
I read it as right HAND traffic being right driving, it's a fair point but I suppose everyone reads things differently. Good spot though and worth checking first if buying them.
