Headlights

Just had a headlight bulb go & both units have lots of condensation, which has been a recurring problem.
Is it best to replace the bulb & dry both units out or buy 2 new headlights & hopefully get rid of the problem?

Condensation is a recurring problem with A2 headlamps and is normally due to either a mis-fitted rear cover or tiny cracks in the outer shell.

If you can identify where the water's coming in then a repair is possible, otherwise it's £260 for a new pair!

Cheers,

Mike

You could try stuffing a few silica gel packets into the back of the light clusters - I've done that and it's helped remove the condensation issue I had...

Nice suggestion, thanks.

I've the same problem in my nearside headlight. The day before the MoT I'll just take it off and put it on the radiator to dry out.

I tried the rad trick but found the silica gel was more successful as it helps prevent recurrence

Did the silica trick too, but it soon gets saturated with water because i have a few plastic bits broken on each headlights and some of the clamps can't be attached again. Seems like every time i open the headlights i lose another clamp.:( Thinking about bonding both parts of the headlight using tube silicone. Anyone tried it?

Water in headlight

In my case the water is entering through the rear of the headlight due to the fact that the cover does not fit properly over the back. There is a black relay(?) on the main beam which protudes too far out. The other headlight is fine and the relay/bulb looks the same but does not protrude as far.

Is it possible the wrong bulb has been fitted?
