Heat gun to restore black plastics

Yes, I've reshaped the front lower bumper on Tank in this way, but you've got to be careful and spread the heat as much as possible and use something like a block of wood to press the plastic back in to shape evenly.

It does work, but be careful

Yep, it works great! When we bought Ada the lower valance on the front bumper was deformed at one side and a section was hanging down; looked like the car had been reversed over a kerb or something. I softened it with a heat gun, straightened it out with a bit of wood then added an extra self tapping screw to hold it all in place. A very good result - you'd never know it'd been done! Word of caution is you need to be very gentle and take your time so you don't overheat the plastic - it could all go horribly wrong! :D

Edit: pipped by the Skip - well, it was him that gave me the tip in the first place !! ;)

Great to hear that ! I suppose the car has to be lifted (sorry, don't know the exact term when the car is... lifted :D) for such operation ?

Nope - you can do it without lifting the car at all - all 4 tyres on the ground, just get a kneeler mat to make yourself comfy whilst you're down on the floor!

Cheers,

Mike

Well, might give it a try since my under bumper part is also a bit messy...

In any case, thanks for helping !
