Heated Mirrors

Just got hold of some what i thought were heated mirror glass'.

When they have arrived they are just the mirror glass and no heating element. Am I missing something, do the heater elements have to be purchased seperately? Or are there two types one which can accomodate the heater element and one which can't.

The part numbers I have are 8Z2857535A & 8Z2857536A.

Thanks

Gary

There are two types of mirror glasses not sure of the part numbers but the ones with the heater element are built into it and should have two conectors on one edge for you to plug in to, so you may have the wrong ones

Dont suppose anyone has a picture of the heated one, i maybe just being stupid but is the connector obvious where you plug in? Its certainly not jumped out at me but i've left them at work so can't have a proper look until the morning.

Hmmm.. i have the right part numbers on the box then. However I suspect the glass that is in the box is not the same as on the box.

I cant check until tomorrow (left them at work) but i expected to see copper spade type connectors as brett said. Ill have another look as i did check in a hurry but i suspect they are boxed up wrong.

Thanks for the sanity check guys.

Yeah 2 spade connectors on each on the straightest edge. ie (the bit closest to the car)

I've heard of people getting heated mirror glasses for cars from the dealer swapping them for the ones on there cars and then returning the used ones in the boxes back to the dealer saying they either didn't want them anymore or they don't work and getting another free set and selling them on:mad:

Some people have no morals

As a further identifier, apart from the two spade terminals on the rear of the mirror glass, you can clearly see the element tracks on the exposed sections of the glass. Did mine some 2 months ago - what a pleasure. Of course cannot enjoy them in the current weather - hurry on winter? ;)

Checked the mirrors today. Definately not heated although they are in the box labelled with the part number for heated. No spades, no visible heating element nada...

Thanks for the help guys just wanted to make sure I wasnt going mad.

Have to get it sorted.

Cheers.

Hmm, so a retro-fit is as simple as installing the glass and some (simple) wiring?

Shome mishtake, shurely?

It's even simpler... There is no wiring to worry about. The connectors should be fitted to every car and should be stowed behind the mirror glass. Just clip the old one out, plug the new one in and clip back in. Job done....

Sweet. Thanks, really miss those since moving from the Superb!

I think the heated mirror glasses are about £30 each from Audi. Give Dave at Stoke Audi a PM and see what he can do? The mirrors seem a pretty rare find on the used market. I've been looking for months with no success.
These are on my short term 'to do' list along with Komfortblinker. :)

The job's a doddle to do. Made even easier if you unscrew the black part at the bottom of the mirror housing to give some finger room when pressing out the old glass.

Tip.

Whether you remove the under mirror housing or fully lock the mirror to prise the glass off - I recommend application of some masking tape to prevent cracking; both removal and installation.
