Heated seat pads

Hi all,
Been trying to find an answer to this for a week or so, and I've found conflicting information. So I'm after a definitive answer, will MK1 TT heated seat pads fit A2 sports seats? I know the connectors are the same, I mean the physical fit of the pads. If they don't fit, does anyone know the best genuine Audi pads to fit into an A2?
Thanks,

Adam

Hi Adam,

The A2's Sport seats use heating elements with 8Z part numbers. If TT heating elements were suitable, I imagine Audi would have used them to save designing/manufacturing something new. This suggests to me that TT elements will, at least, not fit as well as the genuine article.
I've only ever done OEM heated seat retrofitting using A2-specific elements.

Cheers,

Tom

Tom,
Does that mean that 8Z elements can still be bought from Audi? Or do you use used ones?
Thanks

Interested in this answer as my drivers side heated element might be damaged as it rarely works. Passenger side works perfectly. I’ve tried a different roller switch but not swapped the seats over yet to see if it’s the harness/loom.

Kind regards,

Tom

The last time I checked the heating elements were still available to buy from Audi but at a price which didnt make fitting viable.

Yes, they're still available from Audi, but they're expensive ...circa £550 for a set of 4 elements (2x base, 2x back).

8Z0 963 557 E (Back)
8Z0 963 555 E (Base)

I've lost count of the number of OEM heated seat retrofits that I've done, but 99% of them have used seats that had the heated elements already integrated at factory. Only on 2 or 3 occasions have the OEM elements been purchased separately and integrated into an existing set of seats.
I've never removed the elements from a set of seats and migrated them into another set of seats. The elements are really quite tightly integrated into the seat covers.

The elements can be damaged by people kneeling on the seats. The heating elements really don't like point pressure, as it can damage the fine conductor wires, creating an intermittent connection. However, worth checking the regulators and the loom connections first.

As a additional point on this broad subject, the heated seats looms that are available online, that purport to be for the A2, are, in my opinion, a load of rubbish. They're for left-hand-drive mk4 Golfs, but are branded as A2 looms simply because the connectors on the ends are the same. However, the lengths are all wrong, they're not designed to run along the correct wiring routes, the points where they connect to the car's existing wiring are all in the wrong place, the wiring colours don't conform, etc, etc. Some people don't care; if it can be made to work, and the mess can be buried out of sight, there's no problem. However, I couldn't live with that in my own A2, nor could I install such things in other people's A2s. As such, I fabricate my own heated seat looms, which are inch-perfect for the A2 and as close to factory standard as I can get them.

Cheers,

Tom

Hello Terry,

Seeing these available is making put my snorkelling gear on to go outside and swap my seats over to see if the fault is with the harness or the pads themselves.

I wouldn’t know what to offer and wouldn’t want to offend at the same time. Could you please add a price to these to be in keeping with market place rules.

Also would you split this as I’d only need 2 pads for one seat.

Kind regards,

Tom

Hi Guys,

8Z0 963 557 E (Back) £131.00 Each
8Z0 963 555 E (Base) £183.00 Each

Thanks!
Thanks @CreweAudi. My estimate of £550 for a full set is clearly a few years old. Now £628 for a set of four. However, unlike cheap Chinese rubbish, these things are thermostatic in combination with the OEM regulators. Just how much do you want your bum toasting!? :p

Cheers,

Tom

Tom do you know the difference between the B and E version of the heating elements.

I can only assume that one is for SE seats and the other for Sports seats.

Are you able to clarify which seats Terry’s B version elements are for.

Kind regards,

Tom

£100 per set
£175 for all 4

@2work and @CreweAudi

Confusion ahoy! Note that the 'B' versions aren't an 8Z part number. Look again at the post above; they're 8N part numbers, which means they're mk1 TT parts.

Cheers,

Tom (yes, for added confusion, everyone mentioned in this post is called Tom!)

Tom,

Thank you for pointing that out before I went ahead to purchase a set for TerryTomWindy!

I should have gone to Spec Savers!

Tom,

Crewe Audi supplied mine earlier this year. Don't recall paying quite as much as 628 quid. The kind chap gave me a wee discount, if I recall correctly.

Cheers,
Tom
