Hello everyone - I have a black 1.4tdi 90bhp first regsitered in April 2004

My vehicle has had a new dual mass flywheel. now a new battery, starter motor and this week a new alternator as the battery keeps dying and will not start unless jumped or charged again. Can anyone help with this problem, my son thinks it might be the CCU alarm and comfort control ECU.

Thank you - Ray

Hi Ray,

Have you tried Search on here with something like 'battery drain'? Lots of threads to read and how others in the same boat have gone about tracking down the cause - should give you some ideas. Have you recently fitted an aftermarket radio? How long does the fully charged battery take to die? Have you performed any investigative work?

An obvious one and not trying to teach you to suck eggs, have you checked that all of the interior lights are off? I once made the mistake of leaving just one of the front courtesy lights on and didn't notice. In these low temperature conditions, it might make all the difference.

Also, parking with indicators on will set up the appropriate exterior lights to illuminate - much more obvious to spot I grant you.

Hopefully something simple - good luck.

You need a Multimeter with a DC mA range. I have a "Fluke" model 77. It has a 10A and 300mA range choice. Disconnect the battery live terminal. Attach one multimeter lead to that terminal and the other lead to the live battery terminal using a tie-wrap. The meter should have been set to the DC Amps range and is now measuring current flow, in line. As a precaution, I cover the connections in some thin foam and tape it, to prevent any risk of shorting. You now have an accurate indication of any current drain when the car is stood with ignition off and keys out of the ignition. It is at least a good starting point and would indicate if it is purely an earthing=point problem.

Haha Hello Dad, I just posted your car for sale or asked for a repair option for the CCCU and saw your post. I have contacted timmus on this site as he seems to have had a history of repairing the CCCU in Lancaster, A2 Cars Ltd in MK I suspect have gone out of business as I can't get them on the phone...
