Hello everyone! X reg 1.4 A2 here! few bits of advice needed.

Hello all!

I'm diggerinthedark. I recently bought my x reg A2 1.4 Petrol, 103k on the clock. She is a bit of a rough one right now, nasty dirty interior, few bits of interior trim missing (most noticeably the front centre light cover and the boot lid trim.) and an intermittent check engine light (p0130 o2 sensor circuit, she runs fine but idle is a bit iffy sometimes, bounces around the revs unless you turn on ac etc to load it a bit, and she has cut out on me once). seller told me lamda sensor had been changed but i will check soon. also found a piece of (roughly 3/4" i guess?) rubber tubing under the bonnet with some duct tape on it haha, my mechanic friend told me this could be the source of the o2 sensor problem, but hasnt had a chance to check it out in person yet. exterior is looking very good though bar a small crack in the driver side rear lights.

I have a new electric mirror switch and 2 front door straps on order, will be doing these along with my ICE install soon, thanks to the guides i already found here, so thankyou all for that! i will post some pics up once i have put her back together :p

how is everybody this fine grey english morning?

Edit:

oh yeah and as a funny little extra, this being the first car i ever owned which pretty much has mats tailored exactly for this car.. mine were greasy as hell for some reason and smelt disgusting, so i chucked them out on my drive and gave them a good spray down with grease + wax remover, washed them nicely, and left them to dry in my tiny 'front garden'. go back outside 15-20 mins later and some k**bber had pinched my front two and one of the rears. what good are they going to to in their car???? never seen an A2 round here. oh well, they were the rubber ones anyway, puts me in the market for some nice new ones i guess.

Hi diggerinthedark,

welcome to the owners club , youl find loads of information that may help you hear , as you say its already had a 02 sensor ile also say there are 2 on the 1.4 petrols one before and one after the cat , also id sugest checking behind the cam belt side of the engine as theres a 1 & 1/2 inch black intake pipe that has a habit of rubbing through on the brake pipe behind it that may be the cause of your tick over hesitation due to sucking in extra air, but throttle bodies can also become gunged up or become faulty , as you say your leaving the A/C on which raises the normal tickover from around 800 rpm to 900rpm as a very low tickover on the 1.4 petrols, you may also find all the interior parts you need in our classified section as a few members like A2 steve and Sarge sell parts to other members ..

good luck with your new A2

thankyou! yeah i heard this had two, i will have to find out which was apparently changed and which one p0130 refers to. that may be the pipe with duct tape on it, i always was bad at estimating sizes. would that be towards the back of the visible engine bay on the left hand side, down a bit? will take a picture in a bit and make a post in the proper place. according to my generic obd2 thingy, my tickover sits at around 750 quite happily, but ranges between 680-850 ish when unhappy. cheers for the heads up on the classifieds-would quite like to get the light cover replaced, dont really care about the boot lid trim, can see exactly why its off in my head haha, and can see me ripping it off again in the future if i replaced it. (battery being in the boot, and boot having an electronic mech can be an annoying combination. especially with a sub in the boot.)

the pipe i mean is on the driverside just behind the heads cam belt cover it may be smaller size though as been a while since ive been under the bonnet , theres a sensor with wires coming from it and just past the sensor on the bend it nearly touches the brake pipes running behid it connected , fixed to the fire wall, it seems as the engine rocks during acelleration ect back n forth it rubs a hole in the breather pipe over the years , on mine you could put your finger in the hole lol, i taped it up with insulating tape and it made an instant improvement to tickover, the pipe was expensive and not a part they keep had to come from germany so i used and appropiate sized hose connector .

i think that may very well be the one looking at it. has some rather old raggedy duct tape hanging off it so looks like somebody made the easy/lazy choice in the past. hopefully thats not a sign on things to come as far as maintenance goes, its got alot of decent audi service stamps. doubt that is their work...

for now i will replace the duct tape, with nuclear tape :D expensive but so worth it. (sticks like nothing else and if its on a smooth surface, comes straight off with no residue months later.) and clear the fault code, see what happens. if that appears to be the fix i will find some hose and buy your inline pipe thingemy bob :)
