Hello from Coventry

Thermostat was changed over the week end with a Gates thermostat .

I humbly suggest that your Gates thermostat is at least partly the issue.

Change it for a genuine one. Aftermarket ones never work properly - if at all.

I think I followed all of the advice so far .

Diesel filter still needs to be changed though.

Definitely a problem in that case. You'd see an improvement in acceleration and mpg by going to a lighter 15 inch wheel, but you should be getting a lot more than 40mpg from the car.

I'd suggest a compression test.

Power delivery is excellent , it certainly moves when you put you right foot down .and there is no excessive smoke from the exhaust at all ..
I accept that moving to a smaller wheel would improve mpg and acceleration .
But a 17 inch wheel shouldn't make that much difference to mpg .
I also set the tyre pressure to 30psi front and 28psi rear .

I'm all sorted now .
I've changed the thermostat for a new one .
If I now switch on the econ button on the climate control ,which switches off the electric fan .
The car gets up to 90° with in 15 minutes of a motor way run ..
I've since also had cruise control and mini dis fitted.
My mpg wanders between 40mph and 70mph on a run .
This indicates my car is running as it should ..

Oh nice one - so you used a genuine stat this time?

The econ button just switches off your aircon FYI.
