Hello from Oxford(ish)

Hi Jason, if you have a bearing gone, it's worth offsetting some effort and cost and doing the skoda 288mm brake upgrade. Changing the hubs will replace the bearing. if you are doing shocks and rod ends it's all undone anyway.

Is cobalt blue rare? I just think I can (from experience) get it looking good with about £30 of paint. I just haven’t see. A cobalt blue bonnet for sale yet…
Hi there, I’ve got a combat blue off side wing tucked away in my garage going very cheap if neede , problem is I’m inYorkshire - bust b mistake as mine is ‘Brilliant’ blue

I would but it’s had new discs, pads and callipers up front before I bought it! Kinda into keeping the weight down at the moment as well.

However, I am tempted…. Can’t lie!

I must say I find the standard brakes perfectly adequate, although mine is admittedly a TDI90 with rear discs.

Having said that the front does the vast majority of the work on our cars and the front setup on all models sold in the U.K. are identical.

The 288mm upgrade makes the A2 stop on a sixpence if you want and the brake feel is very responsive. The problem is that they weigh a fair bit more than standard brakes.

It's not much more from my thread.. disc stock 5.1kg, vrs 7.1kg cal 3.7, 5.6 hub 7.2 (yes more as has carrier built in), 6.1kg So old 16.2kg, new 18.8kg per side. 2.5kg extra ifound the brakes didn't hold up with my driving style, depends how you use it

I have no complaints about the stoppers on the FSI either.
Mac.

Right so, going to get the gearbox tomorrow.

Just ordered about £200 worth of other parts from TPS including the under tray i don’t have and the Polo dogbone mount. As well as the ball ended nut, retaining clip etc for the clutch assembly itself.

Only thing I couldn’t get from TPS was the clutch fork! Apparently they can’t get that anymore :(

Hello Jason, I’m relatively new to the Club, in fact this is my first post as I tend to dip in & out to pick up on info as required. Believe it or not but I have a spare cobalt blue bonnet ? and It’s in pretty good condition, although I live in Paignton Devon. If you passing I’d be quite happy to trade it for nice bottle of Red wine. Julian.

Ha! That’s only an hour or so from me - if Tom didn’t have my car on his drive as I speak right now and therefore couldn’t easily get his spare bonnet to me, I’d have driven down to you to fetch it in exhange for a small fuel contribution from Jason.

Such a generous forum here!

I will be heading to Yeovil for this gearbox tomorrow but that’s as close as I’ll get soon, anyway.

I think @timmus us the most realistic option, as even if @dj_efk cant do the run for me, I plan on using Toms services at some point to!

Really no problem at all. I’m South Wales at the moment anyway then Plymouth all day tomorrow. If all else fails… you know I have one. Best of luck with your project. Jt
