Hello from Sweden

That could be it. If someone's previously had the crankshaft out, then it's done for. They can't be refitted.

I have tried everything else I could think of so now I either try and find a donator engine or I go electric. Can anyone tell me if its a direct swap from a VW Polo or Golf / Lupo 1.4?

I'm sure someone on here will have done this. You'd think any other code AUA engine (as used in a 2001 A2) would work. Maybe the injectors might need to be swapped over so the ECU is happy it's addressing the same type (or even the individual units) that it already knows.

I just ask because I looked through available engines at the scrapyard and there are litterally 0 audi engines available but 50+ vw engines

Are you able to get a spanner or socket on the crankshaft to turn it with the plugs out?

Yes, It barely budges, but will turn over heavily with the starter, edit ( I turned it over tried to turn it over at the top cam gear so i didn´t turn it on the crank
)

If you are going down the replacement engine route, whilst the engine from the Polo does fit there is more work involved. Try to get an engine from the Fabia 6y which is a direct fit.

Thanks, Totally forgot about Skoda as an alternativ source.

That's interesting, I didn't know the Fabia engines would fit. Is any of those straight fit engines over 75hp?

This guideline will provide you with all the information you ask for.

What would the best way be to swap an engine.

Alternativ 1 Be on a lift and take it out from below? Suspension would have to be removed

Alternativ 2 Remove bumper, radiator, headlights etc and do it from the front?

Maybe thats the way, Then I could do it myself in the garage. I was thinking if I need a lift I would need to do it at a workshop with additional costs involved. Was there any dificulties in removing the front like in your pic?

No it is a rather simple operation. Only issue is of you have a working aircon since you will need to empty it.

Hello SEA2DRIVER

So according to your list of doner engines this one will fit? Polo 9N BBY manuel transmission.

Will everything just fit? manifold etc

Thought it was a reasonable price considering mileage

or this one

Hi,

Both engines should fit but you need to replace some parts as the manifold etc. You have what you need to replace listed in the pdf file. Remember to also replace the thermostat housing which is not mentioned in the pdf file. Much more difficult to do this when you have the engine in place.

You can also try do deal with the prices, should be possible to get some discount since these engines are probably not so attractive nowadays.
