Hello to the forum members.

Welcome LK79. Many happy memories of time spent in Lerwick over the years, certainly too much time upstairs at the Lounge.

Welcome aboard and best of luck with the resurrection :)

You're the second new member in under a month from remote parts of the UK. The other guy @MacKWT in the Outer Hebrides may be your closest A2OC neighbour, although we do have some Swedes and Norwegians in the club too. It's great to see A2's getting to far-flung places :)

Welcome to the club, I'm glad to hear you're saving an A2, do you have any pictures of it or further details of what's required?

Thanks,

I don't actually have any photo's just now as I am waiting to get a battery for my smart phone, ill try and get some uploaded sometime.

Well for starters a battery, a complete brake overhaul front and rear, and the power steering doesn't work, there will be loads more I would think.

Some pics

The windscreen is damaged from the wiper rubbing on the glass, i am trying to figure out how that's happened ?

It needs replaced anyway as cracked in the corner but ill have to sort the wiper issue first.

Shocked has this one been driving in and out of the sea that’s heavy rust on front strut ?..I’ve n3ver seen one as bad on an a2 ..nothing that can’t be sorted I’m sure .?

That happens when the rivets in the piece that joins the two arms wear, allowing it to sag so that the underside touches the screen. Yours is the earlier style setup, that should have a plastic box all around the rivets. It looks like a previous owner has removed this to fit that wiper blade with the extra spoiler. This probably hastened the wear to the rivets.

@depronman is the guy to go to get wiper arms refurbished. I don't think he's ever had one he couldn't bring back but this one could be a first! This would actually be a good opportunity to upgrade to the later arm setup that takes the floppy aero blades. You're probably best buying a secondhand one and arranging for it to be sent straight to him to get sorted.

Fresh air off the sea may be good for us, not so good for steel though. By contrast, the aluminium looks great. Good luck with the restoration.

Its just a typical Shetland car, never further than 3 miles from the sea here so the cars suffer a fair bit of corrosion, I have a 09 Yaris that is a rust bucket underneath to the stage that it'll need a large welding job for the next mot, fuel tank out etc and a large section cut out, probably not worth the hassle to be honest.

The power steering pipes on the steering rack had actually rusted threw and were spewing out fluid.

After looking at the rest of the pipes I could see a few areas that were quite rusty, I am just wondering if this could be repaired with cunifer pipe ? , I guess it depends whether the original pipes will form a flare, but it might be good as it is for a while yet after a clean up and paint.

I hadn’t realised that explains a lot ? ...I have restored a couple of old hilux chassis up over the years and I remember seeing an ex coast guard blue with yellow roof one less than 10;000 miles it was absolutely gone nothing left of chassis ..good luck with your a2 .

I had a weekend of wiper refurbishing
I have two early style arms available on an exchange basis at £30 plus postage
I can through in a cover for £5 extra (missing on your car)

Cheers. Paul
