Help/advice please ... my alarm is going off and can't stop it!

Help please! my alarm is going off and can't get it to stop. Went to the shops earlier and came back to find the alarm going off, for no reason. Drove off and stopped off at the supermarket, locked the car started walking away and the alarm started again.
The lights are not flashing with the alarm.
The door diode is normal, but after about one minute it stops it's normal steady flash, goes static red and the alarm starts.
Is there anything I can do to stop the alarm?
Thank's in advance,
Heather

Evening all,

On behalf of Heather (great to meet you earlier) I can confirm the issue was indeed the alarm module/sounder unit being at fault. Due to recent water ingress the contact pins inside the connector aperture were heavily corroded. It has been removed and a replacement item is being searched for in the background to quickly have full functionality restored.

Kind regards,

Tom
Thanks Tom, (I'm not on here every day). Great to meet you too. Your help and kindness are amazing, as is this forum!

The alarm issues has been appearing to more owners lately. As a temp solution would be good to know, how to remove the alarm module completely or where to find it.
Perhaps as a request through PM's? Cheers
I was wondering if any of the other owners who are having the alarm issues also have the problem of water getting in to the boot, as the contact pins in the unit were corroded? The water problem has been on going for years and every winter the boot is wet. I've already had new vents and the open sky roof drains looked at. The right hand side of the car where the alarm unit is located is where the water is getting in. On pushing the rear right passenger seat forwards and removing the cosmetic panelling from the side it was found to be quite damp.

No damp in either car to my knowledge but both have occasional hissy Fitz!

Another update on behalf of Heather,

A replacement alarm module/sounder unit has been obtained and will be fitted tomorrow evening along with some other items that require attention.

Just the water ingress to investigate further now. The rear vents have been checked and sealed twice in the few years and the OSS drainage channels have also been cleared, I suspect that they’re blocked again though. Please do provide any further suggestions and I’ll see if I can tackle them for Heather tomorrow evening.

Kind regards,

Tom

How are the floors? Possible incorrect jacking or incident could have distorted the floor popping a body bung or piercing the floor.

OSS drains or the seals leaking?

Evening all,

Alarm woes rectified with a replacement module/sounder unit fitted along with a few other items to tidy up Heathers lovely 1 owner A2.

Kind regards,

Tom
Wow! What can I say other than Now that's what you call service!! :)

Really grateful Tom for helping me out this week. We'll be seeing you again soon for a few more tweaks.

If you are anywhere near the East Midlands then Tom's expertise comes highly recommended,
Thank you so much.

Since these sounder units become older and older also second hand units will probably fail sooner or later. Is there an alternative option for them? Since it is practically impossible to replace the battery.

Hello Heather,

Thank you for the kind words, it was a pleasure meeting you and seeing your A2 feeling better after a pit-stop in Coalville. My generosity is open to all members as I really don't mind assisting the community; I enjoy tinkering!

Kind regards,

Tom

Hi,
When Tom was sourcing a replacement for my A2, an Audi A3 one was mentioned as it had the same part number as mine ... please correct me if I'm wrong Tom!

Hello Heather,

You remember correctly. The part number for the alarm module/sounder unit is indeed from the Audi A3 Type 8L:

8L0951605 the later revision that has a letter A at the end can also be used. These items were used on several VAG vehicles from the era.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards,

Tom
