Photo isn't clear bur looks to be cable sheath left in the bracket
They can be corroded in place and a sod to extract but possible with perseverance
Scottish roads salt will compound that
Tank strap looking iffy too

The cable end passes thru the centre of the bracket which acts as the fixed point
against which you are pulling ( pen pointing to bracket in photo)
The metal ferrule on the end of the cable seizes in the bracket
Changed plenty and so far haven't had to drop the tank

Perth area so similar road salt

Aww wish i could come to perth and get it fixed. Just such a long way. He is away to show a welder my car ?

Not sure what that will achieve other than a second pair of eyes
No welding involved
Has the garage worked on your vehicles previously

PM if preferred

Iv rung him and he said the bracket is loose he cant access it and its away to the welder ?

Well he seems to have removed it, so if the welder can fix it you should be okay.
He hasnt removed anything he just said it is loose. So he cant put the handbrake throught. The welder had said he will not be worth fixing it because its 3 days to take all the seats and carpets etc out and the petrol tank and to put it all back together. So that is why i was asking if it will be an easier job. The welder still has the car, we havent heard back from him

Just to check, the welder does realise the car's made of aluminium, right? Different method/equipment to normal steel.
Im not sure. It will be tuesday because all the chairs & carpets have to get out. I dont even actually know the welder because the garage man who i go to has given my car off to him because i insisted it is fixed. Its prob not economical now but i love my wee car. Once this is done surely everhing on it is virtually new ?

I'd be concerned as well. Only reason for removing seats and carpets is if he intends to weld the floor.
Suggest you talk to him before he attempts any further repairs and ask exactly what he intends to do then report back here.

Is the fastener fixing point even accessible internally

Rear seats and carpet removal is around 10 minutes tho not convinced required

Second a discussion of intentions before work carried out
It may be that once welder is aware shell is aluminium plans may change

I got it back its passed the MOT now, the handbrake works and the seats are back in it & everything. He said he will do the shoes??, in a few weeks coz they are not desperate but could do with getting done. ??. Im so happy Zany is still alive after her ordeal ??. Thank you everyone
