Help me diagnose a noise!

Hi all..

Any ideas what this noise is?

Noise sounds like a whining gearbox/bearing noise

It's not noticeable at low speeds but above 40 quite loud.

It changes pitch and intensity with the speed of the car, regardless of gear selected.

It doesn't change if the car is in neutral or gear

It doesn't change when cornering

I've replaced the tyres and the noise is still present.

My best guess is that it's from the front... Possibly middle or left but that's a guess

Wheel bearing must be a candidate at this point. Can you say more about the car, mileage, model etc

Wheel bearing would be my first thought, but it doesn't shift pitch when cornering, which previous bearings on other cars have

I would agree, but I had the OSF bearing fail on mine earlier in the year and I couldn’t get it to alter noise with turning. It started as a bit of a speed related whine over 40 mph and developed more into a quiet version of a RR jet turbine engine at pretty much any speed before I got it changed. Pretty much the symptoms you describe.
