Hi, please need anybody to help.
My abs, traction and warning triange came on randomly, i restarted the engine, and they didnt reapear. Weeks later, i went over a pot hole that seemed quite big, and the same lights came back on with the warning triangle on dash, i restared the engine, the lights went off, but as soon as i traveled abit down the road they all came back on. I took the car to the garage, and they though it maybe a sensor, so i got them to change the sensor. Things still stayed the same, so the garage then said, it maybe the wheel bearing, a dirty hub, or the wireing to the sensor. Afew weeks later the abs light and traction light stayed on as soon as the engine started, but the dash said 'ok.' Next i bought a hub, complete with wheel bearing and fitted myself, also checked the wiring for defects, and to me the wireing looked fine. Still the same, lights stay on once engine is started. Now i am lost, and cant afford to take the car into audi, after i have had a engine rebuild.:mad::mad::mad:

Any comments or advice on anything would be greatfull! Thanks :confused:

When the 3 warning lamps are illuminated together it often indicates a problem with the EBPD (electronic brake pressure distribution) system. This is the part of the system which generates the individual wheel braking force for the ESP (electronic stability programme) Usually ABS faults only trigger when the car is moving so if the warning lamps coming on as soon as the engine is started it could be a fault with the active brake servo or brake pressure sensors.
Suggest you have another diagnostic scan to pinpoint the problem.

Hi, I enquired about an almost identical fault here on the A2 forum 2 weeks ago but nobody responded. Regardless I got it sorted out. Spike is the oracle of A2’s so if his response doesn't solve the issue then you could look at what happened to me as it turned out to be the wiring harness to the sensor.

My car like yours kept on resetting when the ignition was turned off then on. When my car had the fault registered my local garage hooked up their computer to the A2’s ECU, it showed a “front left sensor” error code. They then did a front left senor wheel check via one of their screen options, jacked the car up and spun the front left wheel, the sensor responded perfectly.

I guessed in my question that it may be the harness, as that had also happened to me on an A Class I once owned, to my surprise that was the exact place the mechanic went too next and noted some year's old repair work where the loom appeared to have been tampered with at some point in the past. A new harness was purchased from Audi plugged into my original sensor and up into the loom at some point, now all’s resolved.

I only mention this because of your reference to pot holes in the road setting it off as it did with this car and my other.

Ps, the wiring harness looked fine to us too, then when they unravelled some tape to have a look at the repair join, it was solid, soldered and heatshrik rapped, regardless they changed the entire thing.

hi just an update i had it scanned again today, and it has removed the passenger side asb sensor fault :) but now it has come up with the drivers side sensor fault ?? and stearing angle sensor fault what does this one mean.? Away i tryed to remove the drivers side sensor and it snaped inside hub :( had to remove hub to get the other half out. So i am hopeing this will sort it just orderd a new sensor just have to wait for delivery then i will no more .Is it normal to have to reset with computer to clear codes? Thanks for reply people i think this will be my next step (replaceing the wireing) if this sensor doesnt sort it,Now what happens is when i start the car the dash says ok but the abs and traction laght will not go out!! any more coments i would be greatfull thanks for your info and help a2 owners i will report back as soon as i get this sensor fitted.

Hi mine didn't ever change sides it was one continous fault (front left senor) but when they jacked the car up and spun the wheel the senor recorded the speed of the wheel correctly, this is what led the garage to start checking out the loom from the sensor up, all seemed fine until they located an old repair, that actully looked fine but they replaced the wiring anyway and that was that.

I wouldn't start ripping out your loom until the problem has been pinpointed. I'm no expert but your multiple sensor issue doesn't sound one and the same as as the issue i had anymore.

Hi just replaced the drivers side sensor and reset with computer and it has cleared the sensor fault so now no fault codes on the abs sensors just got 1 more left and it's steering angle sensor !! Any ideas on this ?? Thanks for reply

Sorry mate i don't know. I was hoping your problem could have been resolved as straightfoward and uncomplicatedly as mine, you really shouldn't have to go around the houses like this (i can't envisage so many sensors packing up at once) You've had a touch of bad luck imo. I think now what you have mentioned can't be properly addressed without people in the know seeing your car in the flesh.

Having said that, you did make sure to double Check what Spike said no? those guys really know what they're talking about.

What is/are the fault code(s) for the steering angle sensor fault. Depending on what code is registered the troubleshooting or fix will likely be different.

Perhaps do a search on the forum to see what issues others have had with this sensor.

If you have a print-out of the recent scan, post the output of the ABS controller so we can advise.

Cheers

Jeff
