I took one of the rear seats out last weekend (done it loads of times before) but this time 2 problems:

1. seat back didn't click folded eg when folded flat it usually clicks so it wont unfold when you take it out (this time it didn't but I didn;t realise until afterwards)

2. rear seat came out ok as usual but now when I try and put it back in, it wont re-engage in the floor lock points. It lines up perfectly but no matter what I try (gentle pressure or hard whack) it just wont lock into the floor.

The seat back lock is now the only thing holding the seat in place - clearly not safe so i need to try something to get it back in.

Before I try the laborious route with Audi dealers I wondered if anyone had experienced the same and got any solutions?

Thanks

I've been struggling with my seats too. Also had them in the car with bad alignment (the two parts came too close in the middle, really strange).

What I do:
- remove the headrests (I hate that about most cars. I always strain some muscle while pulling up and sideways!)
- getting the upper part to stay folded requires some 'weight'. I just lean on in with my knee.
- getting the whole thing out is easy then: just pull the lever while sitting on it.

Getting it all back sometimes goes wrong because the springs in the catches that lock to the floor are 'off', most of the time. I normally place it in position over the holes, push down, and if it doesn't fit I push down again while pulling the lever. That results in a loud 'boing' of the mechanism releasing.
No amount of other throwing and wacking worked for me. Only the lever!

Good luck,

Edo

thanks Edo - I think I've tried that but will try again and put more focus on the lever. I have never had the problem before and getting them out is really simple usually. As you suggest, a weighted knee on the seat back usually locks it in place ok but this time, no amount of weight will lock the seat back down - even 170lbs of me sitting on it in the car wont lack the seat back down and I wonder if there is something inside the mechanism that stops the floor catches locating properly when the seat back isn't closed properly?

Edo - your suggestion worked so thank you. An almightly pull on the lever while slotting the seat back in and it suddenly gave a bit and ovbviously reset the locking mechanism, so now it works fine again.

Thanks

Good to hear that.
On my first attempt to put the seats back in, I even started poking around the locking mechanism with a screwdriver. I could see something was turned or caught in the wrong direction, but could only fix it with the lever.

Well, back to all our car's other problems then... ;)

Same happened to me... had to take it to Mr Audi... what happens is if you don't align it well and force it too hard you bend the hooks at the bottom... then the aligment is totally out. So they had to "just" bend it back. Don't know how they did it as the steel is quite strong... but they managed.
