OK a few months ago I purchased an a2 tdi with a blown BHC engine. (With a brand new turbo fitted prior to the engine blowing)
With some advice from members on here I purchased a good AMF engine and swapped all the components over to make a BHC engine.
All good so far.
Car started and run fine on trial runs then eml light and error code P0299.
Have done some research and it looked like vac lines or turbo boost issue.
Now the findings.
The new shiny turbo I thought the adjustable gide veins were seized due no use.
But I have found that the bellows seem to work the wrong way round.
Does this work on vacuume or pressure is my question. As I can pull the actuating rod out but not push it in towards the bellows.
Or does the turbo control the veins and push the bellows to give a pressure reading.
Sorry it's a bit long winded.

I think this turbo is a waste gatted turbo so is pressure opperated. Also is there a diagram for the vacuume pipe locations and where they should go on the manifolday by the maf sensor ?

Will do Robin.
Have enjoyed the challenge so far of a2 ownership.
Have gained a vast amount of knowledge so far with the help and support of the club

Well the woe continues. Fault code p0299 has now changed to p1556 after replacing the vacuume block.
Any ideas where to look now.

Does this mean that you have a VNT turbo? The BHC and AMF engines use a wastegate type turbo. The former requires a vacuum supply from the vacuum pump to operate the vanes, whereas the latter takes a pressure feed from the turbo to opoerate the wastegate. The former cannot be adapted for use with the BHC/AMF without changing other hardware including the ECU. You would be effectively converting to an ATL.

Thanks for both replies.

OK the turbo has a waste gate and I hope operates on + pressure.
(I retained the BHC ecu)But not sure how much pressure this takes to move as with the bellows attached I can't move it by hand. Without the bellows it's very free to move.
The vac block was used as £200 + vat new was a bit steep for troubleshooting. Think the old block was fault as the code has changed.
Going to start at the very begining with the air filter and go through the system. Tomorrow.

OK the tail of wow continues.
I have had the car at two different techs. The last a vw specialist who tells me the new turbo is a dud. It requires 2.8 bar to operate the wastegate actuator. (Should be about 0.8 bar)
Have adjusted the actuator but it seems that a lot of pressure is required to move it. With it disconnected the wastegate is very free to move.
Does anyone have a spare used wastegate actuator for a BHC engine that I can try just for troubleshooting. As this is easy to do on the car.
I'm based in Dunstable but can collect / arrange courier.
Any help greatly appreciated
