One of my rear seats has becom stuck!

The back won`t release from the clip as i don`t believe
that the base has clipped in firmly i have tried applying pressure to the base but to no avail.

Any advice greatfully accepted.

Similar thing happened to me some time ago.

After much messing and some cursing I took it back to the dealer who adjusted the locating thingy on the bottom of the seat - no problems since.

I've had my ex demo 1.6 FSI Sport for 2 months now and have had both seat catches replaced under warranty. One because it wouln't release i.e. I couldn't fold the seat; the second because it wouldn't lock into position when the the seatback was raised. Prior to the second catch failing I too had problems getting the seat to engage in the botton locators but with much pushing shoving and a few expletives along the way I finally managed to get it to click in. I guess it is an expensive repair as it took more than half a day to fix on both occasions. Seems a co-incidence that 2 catches should fail almost simulaneously. If your warranty is still effective go to your dealer for a fix. Is this a known/common fault?

Make sure the seat is folded forward fully and has 'clicked'.
Lean on the folded bit as you release the rest.

Couldn`t wait for the dealer just used a bit of carefully directed forceto get it out. Found the problem to be th idiot that layed the changer cable had stopped the seat locking off! EWill have strong words with tem when i get hold of them!!! ( D`oh it was me - Self inflicted fault!)

Hi all.

I, too, have had this recurring problem with the rear seats in my X reg A2. For removal, Maersk's tip is on the money, but for re-inserting the b****rs, well it does seem to be something of a hidden art. I tried and failed with the L-H seat after I'd removed both for cleaning and treating the leather, tried to get the technician to have a go, and he failed, too.

I'd say it is a common problem, since a few have already mentioned it and those feet bottoms do seem very unforgiving in being seated properly in their mounts.

It's now with Wimbledon Audi. Let's see if they do actually fix it this time, since another month will mean that the car is outside its warranty period....

It is also in for a check of the power steering. Hope to god it's nothing serious, but it has intermittently tightened up on a couple of occasions, which is most unsettling whilst last weekend the dashboard display showed an orange image of a steering wheel with an exclamation mark alongside it....

I do hope they have a proper look into it...

Jaffa,

Must be something with you seats. I have a 2002 A2, and both seats are in and out in 10 minutes.
Bloody things are heavy though !! And they damage easily when you rest them on the sidewalk..

Hi Dennis.

Yeah, I think you're right. I thought it might be simply that I didn;t have the right technique, but that's not it after the technician had the same lack of success as I did.

You are right about the seats being heavy and also fragile. I laid down a sheet before I removed mine last time for the same reason. This last time, I decided to leave them in the car and simply us the strut to keep them in the upright position. Still managed to get good coverage with the Autoglm leather nourisher. However, won't be any good if I need to move a washing machine!!
