Hi all, fresh A2 owner

Sounds like a great idea - there must be a way - in very cold temperatures (we generally don’t go much below -5 in England) this would be very welcome. Taking it to the extreme imagine using an app on your phone, to preheat your engine from the comfort of your living room?!

A system was fitted on Dave's first purchase "Audrey", but that's an ATL which never had a Webasto in the first place.
Correct, I had a Calix plug-in engine heater fitted - I’d suggest that would be by far the easiest option here for the OP if he has a place where he can conveniently “plug in” overnight

5'th update
Forgot to update here.

in November 2021 did some engine service, because mileage was up and no prior service history is known. (did all of this myself with some help from friend)
Changed oil and its filter
changed coolant
replaced timing belt with pulleys and tensioners that go between
replaced water pump
replaced thermostat
replaced alternator voltage controller
replaced alternator belt and its tensioner
replaced egr valve - removing old one was major hassle because bolts were rusted stuck and I eventually had to cut it off with saw.
replaced valve cover gasket
replaced tandem pump seals between engine

Added picture when engine was partially dismantled.

Since December have driven with my A2 and still runs and driver great.

What to do:
Still thinking of locating and removing some squeaks between interior panels and door panels, because they are annoying.
1 windscreen washer jet is dislocated and doesn't spray onto windshield. Bought new one, but currently unable to replace, because it's too cold and snowy outside.
also dreaming of making RNS-E upgrade, but this car is pre-CAN which makes it more difficult than needed, still, not impossible.

6'th update:
It's spring 2022. Have driven it a little less, because I bought electric scooter for everyday use. Still occasionally need my A2 for commuting and trips.

What have I done:
  • Repaired windshield washer jets (needed inside cleaning)
  • Repaired drainage plastic parts where rainwater flows from the hood, plastic was cracked. 2-component glue saved the day.
  • Installed fake leather seat covers so original seats wont wear off and I can more freely put stuff onto seats. Easier to clean also.
  • Repaired AC loop: changed AC compressor, changed AC reservoir, changed internal temperature sensor, repaired AC fan controller.
  • Had AC loop filled and tested at local repair shop. It wasn't cheap, but overall now I have at least 1 car with working AC.

Known issues:
  • some squeaks in the interior, not issue, but little annoying
  • engine is more oliy then before. Oil seems to leak from turbo which will pain (and expensive) to repair.
Overall car still runs and drives great. I really like my A2, nice to drive and economical (especially important nowadays).
