We will be collecting our new A2 next week! It will get a good coat of looking at before it becomes the daughter's commuter.
Its a 1.4tdi with 130k miles & a farting egr valve.
Can someone recommend a suitable fault code reader for it, please?
 
If you have a Windows laptop, any version XP to 10, VCDS Lite, free download, (from Ross-Tech), and a KKL lead from eBay, (circa £7.50).
It'll get you started, and you can upgrade for $99. Only good for pre 2005/06 VAG vehicles. Full versions that support new cars is more expensive, check out the Ross-Tech website.
Other scanners are available.

I have a very good solution for the egr valve

Nice ride!
I too have a black 2002 tdi but mines not open sky sadly

Top tip, fit an additional engine to chassis earth lead!
