Ive been looking for the thread showing how many A2,s were registered in the UK - it shows specc and colours. If anyone can find it for me it would be much appreciated !.
Thankyou in anticipation.
Dave :)

Thanks vespa. The "how many left" site refers to how many are still registered/sorn. The club thread i,m after shows how many were actually registered in the UK with engine sizes, speccs and colours.

I was just wondering how many yellow and silver Storms were ever registered in the UK in Tdi guise and this thread "chart" lists them.

While looking for this (and I can't find it either) I looked at the howmanyleft.co.uk site too.

The interesting fact (well interesting to me at least) was that since the car ceased production, only 270 have been "lost" out of 2140 in total, since 2006 (no way of measuring how many were lost before 2006, it just shows the number registered and so doesn't give any indication of "losses".

That is a pretty slow attrition isn't it? Especially with all of this talk about insurance companies writing off so many cars because of the alloy construction.

Another indication of just how robust these great cars are.

PS, finding threads on here via the search facility is severely hampered, by the looks of it the search seems to ignore short words such as "key" "how" "OSS" etc.?
Could I ask Ben (if he spots this) if he could have a look to see if the minimum number of letters in the search could be lowered if possible.

For example, search for "key" and you get nothing

The 270 number is interesting to me too - makes the issues surrounding the "breakers" thread appear paranoiac !. :)

I Wonder why it is showing 3,360 in total and the other one is showing 2,140?

Could it be that it is duplicating some of the figures? It lists lots of similar models and doesn't mention Storms!!!

Hi guys

That's the data I put up. You'll be better off going to this URL
http://www.alancooper.me.uk/A2/A2_stats.htm

That page lists various tables with table headings.

Strange but I can't see any ref. to the link given earlier in this thread for the table starting blue, green etc. My guess is that it was a specific extract in response to a member's query, possibly someone asking about those specific colours for TDi.

Re colour storms. The DVLA does not record that classification and given that it only records the base colour (e.g. blue) then only the orange and maybe the yellow (I would guess) will uniquely refer to the orange and yellow colour storms (unless a customer paid for custom paint job on another model of A2).

Looking at the figures it says only 510 of A2 Sport petrol was sold in the Uk, and only 257 FSI TDI. Wow.
Stupid question I know but can someone tell me what spec the Special Edition had? As there was only 308 ever sold.

Thanks

The Special editions were basically the run out models leading up to the end of production Paul. They wern,t lavished with very much specc - i do believe they just had the ECC and that was about it - the rest was very basic stuff.

I know when I got my A2 10 years ago I was confused by SE and Special Edition so I wouldn't be surprised if some A2s have been wrongly registered. AFAIK, back then DVLA data came from forms filled out by dealers*, so they could have muddled the two up.

I don't know how it is done today but you would think the manufacture would send electronically a list of vin no.s to the DVLA along with the correct spec. The dealer would then link the vin nos. to the customer, preferably scanning a bar code on the car, and maybe one day one on the customer ;) and sending it electronically.

*there were some obvious data errors (e.g. engine sizes of 14, 142, 1166, 1191, 1290 etc), In fact there were 152 vehicles with invalid engine sizes (0.8%). According to the DVLA data there is a white A2 with 2144 cc engine registered in 1984 and another A2 with 41390cc engine - has anyone seen the beast ;)

Thankyou for posting these stats Alan - ive printed them now so i can always find them !.

You're welcome Dave. Don't forget they are as at Sept 2005 so there will be slightly more A2s as the final stock was sold.

In 2008 I did ask the DVLA for another extract but they said I had to pay £600 (24 hours work) even though I sent them model extract code I knocked up in 10 mins. They said I should approach their commercial dealers. Probably more like £6,000 then!
