HOW TO - Audi Key Fob Breakdown Top Half - Immobiliser part (A2 standard issue type)

This is a break down on the remote fob:

The immobiliser chip (a little glass tube) is sat inside the plastic housing very near the blade.

Split the two halve's of the remote apart by inserting a flat bladed screwdriver into the slot,
Take the top half of the remote containing the blade off,
Take off the four rings Audi logo by sliding a blade under it and lifting it off,
Unscrew and remove the small screw under it,
Flip key blade in the open (blade out) position,
Carefully split it apart (bearing in mind that blade mounting mechanism is spring loaded therefore under tension and can 'ping' out and fly out),
The two halves can be quite tightly fitted/glued together and some come away easier that others,
You will now have the blade and mechanism, a spring under it (which makes it flip open) and two halves of the casing.
Top half of the casing will have a small glass tube inside it, this is the transponder for the immobiliser.

If you need to use this transponder again (can only be used (programmed) once) , say transferring it into a new key fob, then you will need to be 'real' careful on trying to get it out, I have found these can be glued into place and this being the case together with it being fragile glass, they can be damaged very easily. If you need to get it out and it is resisting, do not use metal/sharp objects like blades or screwdrivers as it will more than likely break it, use something made of soft plastic or wood.

I little heat applied to the plastic area surrounding the transponder will help loosen it and it will come out, just take your time doing it or you will be left with a damaged transponder therefore your car will not start without this device.
