How to fix ash tray spring?

I know, I discovered the same behind my ashtray (do cars still have ashtrays?) and I thought the LED was a dealer bodge. I’m fairly certain it was between the two crimps. All the LED does is illuminate the ashtray.

One of those wires will be live so that’s the reason I suggested you insulate them. Avoids blown fuses.

as long as the connector is left un plugged there is no need to insulate the wires in the ash tray, actually the neatest thing to do is remove the black connector and those wires as the led is missing and the lack of the ash tray light is no big issue

I agree, it's not much of an issue.. more like a weekend try to fix thing. The wires are not connected to anything, they are just dangling and there is no connector to them anyhow.. so they can't blow any fuse. I will just let it be as i won't ever use that ashtray for it's purpose.. maybe just as a storage thing.. thank you for the answers

Hey all, just a new A2 owner here and just want to fix a few little foibles. Ashtray is permanently in the out position and won't stay in - do we use the same method as others mentioned here or is this a different issue? Also have one of the drink holders that is also not "clipping" back into its holder - how difficult is it to repair or is it just a clip missing? Thanks all.
