How to get GALA working

Right, having seen many posts on the topic and having been frustrated myself, I have finally managed to get the speed-sensitive volume function of the audio unit to work, with AFTERMARKET units supporting this feature.

It really is remarkably easy as well!

It turns out that up until MY 01, the function was controlled not by CAN bus, but by Speedo output 2 from the dash readout.

This is still present on my (MY 05) A2, so I presume it'll be there on most others too.

Basically, all you need to do is link up this output (pin 31 on the blue 32-pin connector behind the dash pod) to the input on your head unit (usually pin 1 on the power block).

I did this this afternoon and am pleased to report that it is working well.

As my .sig says, my head unit is a Blaupunkt Woodstock DAB 54.

No probs Kaine - I'm just glad that the forum is still around - I feared the worst when the for sale signs went up!

Hopefully, I'll be able to give a full description soon of the procedures to retro-fit Bose (yes I know in a previous post I said it wasn't worth it, but that was based on the factory price of £450 + VAT) and post a few pictures of my soon to be installed all-black interior (headlining, A & D posts, sun vizors etc).
