How to get your existing key to work again

If your key has suddenly stopped operating the central locking, try the following

Put the key in the ignition and turn it on.
Press the lock button (or the unlock button)
Turn off the ignition and try the key.

This fix ONLY works on keys that have already worked in your A2, it does not work for new or secondhand keys you have bought that have never been paired to your car.

I cannot get my keys to sync, never worked since I got the car two months ago, changed batteries but to no avail. I can see the CCCU has been replaced with a second hand one. I assume (maybe wrongly) the keys are programmed to the CCCU and therefore there is a need to have them re-programmed if CCCU is changed.

You're right, if the CCCU has been swapped, you do need to get the fobs recognised by the new unit.

Firstly, has the code at the end of the CCCU part changed? For example, 'Q' to 'AF'? If so, you need fobs that match the protocol used by that unit, and you won't be able to use your old fobs.

The simplest way to get the correct fobs recognised by the CCCU is to use VCDS. Do you know anyone who has it? Otherwise you can check the VCDS list here:

It would help if you were more specific as to your location in your profile. Scotland is a big place!

Thanks for the info.
Unfortunately I don’t know if the codes have changed because it has been done before I got the car and the fobs have never worked. Will the PR codes help?
I have to use the key to lock/unlock and every time I turn on the ignition the central locking unlocks, even if it has already been unlocked. I’m in Dunfermline.

As steve_c has already said you need to verify the remotes and CCCU are compatible. If they are not then you will need to replace either the remotes or the CCCU.

Lift the carpet from the passenger footwell and remove the metal plate. Once those are out you should be able to see the CCCU and read its part number. Note the last one or two letters down. Now take your remove keys and split the top key part off the lower button part. On the reverse of the button part you will find the part numbers so again note if the part number has a letter D at the end or if it is just numbers.

Now the clever part if the CCCU ends with a SINGLE letter such as Q then the matching remotes DO NOT have the D after the numbers. Conversely if the CCCU ends with DOUBLE LETTERS such as AE then the matching remotes MUST have the D after the numbers.

Once you are happy that you have matching CCCU and remotes then they should be capable of being matched to the CCCU using VCDS and the guide on here.

P.S. If you edit your profile you can then make your location much more sensible.

Firstly then, you need to take audifan's advice about checking the part numbers for your CCCU and fobs. Once you know that they are indeed compatible, you will need to find someone with VCDS to get them correctly paired.

The member #2 on the free scan list may be happy to help if you are able to get your car to him. From the map, it looks like he's somewhere to the south east of Glasgow, but that may not be too precise. Unless you can find someone local to you who has the same software (which is specific to VW group vehicles) it might be worth making contact via PM with the member concerned and seeing if he can help.

Awesome, thank you for this info. Is there a link to the guide you refer to?

Here is the link to another of Steve Birchall's work...

Carefully read and make sure you understand about the key positions when adding.
