How to post pictures?

With my new rear ARB being available for pics tomorrow, I might want to post images for the first time.
How do I do it on this forum? Is it as simple as the "insert image" button above (mountain with postage stamp image), or do I need somewhere to host the images and link in?

hosting's easier to deal with on your side, then it's a [noparse]

For the hosting - depends what you want. Flickr, 23hq for photos, photobucket for images, but they reduce quality.

ok so I need a flikr account.
Looks like I need to sign up.
I have a fotopic.net account, but can no longer do links to the images here.

What is current hoster of choice?

I don't like flickr; a couple of years back, in reponse to some "minor" issues in the states, they tried to change Ts&Cs overnight (much as certain mobile phone companies...). Point was and remains that this is simply illegal in Germany and extremely bad business practice. Lots of (German) users migrated as a result. My account was registered in Germany.

I moved after this to 23hq and haven't really regretted it. Flickr is the place with the movement and content and masses of users and nicer user interface. 23hq is smaller, works, and it's a lot easier to stand out. It also makes sure your pics aren't quite as obvious as they might be.

Brett, thanks for the recomendation.
Just signed up for 23hg.

Here is first pic from my summer holiday.
Saw red arrows in Fowey. Very chuffed that got a similar quality photo with my D80 as appeared in the national papers:::

Hi CHB
If you have downloaded the pics onto your hard drive just compose your mail as normal the click on 'Go Advanced'
In the Additional Options Box, click 'Manage Attachments'
In the Upload File From Your Computer, click 'Browse' then select the location (my pictures on the C drive for example) and highlight the pic you want to attach
With the pic name shown in the 'File Name' box, click 'Open'
With the pic name now showing in the 'Browse' box, click 'Upload'
This transfers the pic into the 'Attachment Key' table and can take a minute or two.
When done, Click on'Close Window'
The pic file should now be attached to your post
Repeat this process to add more pics to yourpost
When done, click 'Submit Reply'

Cheers Spike
