How to: Remove / Replace 16" Alloy Wheel Centre Caps

Our year 2000 SE alloy wheel centre caps have suffered from broken clips on the backside. In fact the rear ones were 'stuck' in place as all the clips had broken off.

The reason this happens is that they appear to be designed to only 'fit' one way and that is with the small hole on the face of the centre cap (where you insert the tool to pul them off) adjacent to the tyre valve.

Hope that is useful to those who didn't know - another tip is to remove the centre caps before you take your car into a garage so the garage doesn't break them and stick them back in place without telling you :p

Exactly the same happened to me with regards to having a center cap glued in place! The garage the previous owner used was the culprit. I couldn't believe it when I (eventually) managed to prize off the cap that it had been glued in place! Some garages are unbelievable!

Cheers Rob.

Thx for this usefull information.
I have only 2 caps, of which one has damaged on clip. I will have to repair it and untill summer get two additinonal centre caps. It is really sad that even Audi service breaks them.
