How to take the rear spoiler off?

The fix for the water stains on the rear window is to drill two small holes on the underside of the spoiler - all the water will run out (I got over half a pint) and then you can polish off the stain. With the holes there it'll never accumulate water again and the problem won't come back.
I get this water build up too, is there an exact point best to drill and what sort of size hole, only want to do it once!
Cheers Jeff

I did it with a pretty small drill bit as didn't want the hole to be obvious - so just a few mm. I did it about a thumb-width's distance away from all 3 edges on the underside of the spoiler on the left and right undersides - this allowed the water to drain out and the air to get in. Not had any water build up since.

That's great help Dan thanks, I don't suppose you could share a pic just to be sure.

Here you go - this is the rear left of the spoiler - I did it in the thicker part where it's "lipped". As you can see the hole is still there but it's not really noticeable now. I think I used a 3mm drill bit.

No worries. If someone was able to help me find and silence my increasing number of squeaks, buzzes and rattles in the car, that would be a great return!

Dan, do I understand right that you drilled the holes only on the underside, not through the whole spoiler?

I had the buzzes I thought were coming from the right (passenger) seat, but they were coming from the rear part of the centre console, between the seats.
When I pulled the edge of the plastic up, the buzzing was gone.
Haven't fix that yet, I have to see what clips and screws hold that part.

Thank you very much for this tip, just done the job, 3 holes of 3mm each - a veritable "Niagara" came out. Hopefully that's the end of rusty water staining now - I took some time to polish off the rust trail from the glass and tailgate, looks much better now :)

Hi,

I get a "buzzing" noise from the handbrake spring occasionally. Adjusting the position of the lower plastic part of the leaver cover stops it.

How could water got into the spoiler, I don't know, but the thing was full of it! Clear water in my case, but lot of it.

Drilled only two holes, one on each side, don't know where to drill the third one, doesn't matter.

And I don't trust small holes, mine are 4.5 mm :D

This is tomorrow's job, couple of holes and clean the glass properly.

I also think the spoiler gasket needs to be stuck back in a couple of places.

I also think the spoiler gasket needs to be stuck back in a couple of places.

My gasket too, in both corners on the bottom side, someone said it should be super-glued, but I'm still thinking how not to make a mess with the glue.
The gasket in the corners can be pushed back in place, it's flexi enough, but nothing holds it pressed between the spoiler and the glass.

I have exactly the same issue with mine, and although it doesn't spoil the look of the car it is is annoying knowing it's like it, especially when you open the tailgate.
I wouldn't use superglue, you will cause irreparable damage to the paint if it runs or drips, I've thought I may try some clear or black glazing mastic, pulling the rubber out as much as I dare and insert the mastic, pushing the rubber back in with a small prop from the floor up under the spoiler and leave overnight, I was going to use a small bead of timber or rigid plastic,
Not sure if anyone else has tried another method but I will have a go and see, I work with mastic a lot and know its strengths it can also be cleaned off easily from the glass once dry with a fine blade, no damage, but make sure it's a new blade!

Cheers Jeff
