Our A2 is in for its 2nd AVS and part of the two year extra work is renewal of hydraphobic coating to rear screen. How do I know this has been done as I have doubt as to whether the dealer knew what I was talking about. Thanks

Before the service you could have sprayed some water over the screen. If the water beaded-up and rolled down the screen easily then you would know that the hydraphobic coating was still fine and didn't need renewing. Out of interest, how much does this coating cost at the dealership?

Too late for the test and I'll let you know what they do if anything and how much it costs. The only reason i've mentioned it to them is that its a service item every two years much like brake fluid and I have a feeling that they don't know what to do!

i bet they won't do it and haven't done it - IIRC it was removed as "it didn't work"

besides, use something like ombrello or rain-x and it works wonders. clean, rub on with a microfibre cloth, dampen and wipe off; rub on, wet and wipe off again. stays in place beautifully on the rear screen. my side windows are also still okay nearly a year on (but then the car's been washed probably 3 times since then...) and the rear's great. shame the snow piles up in the middle, especially the powdery stuff, but we can't have everything.
