I’m not crazy. Am I?

I’m seriously giving thought to getting another A2. Looking at the possibility of a joint endeavour with The Boy who hopefully will pass his test on Friday. He likes the A1 but I’m working on him. A2 is one better innit? 😉 So depending on insurance costs, I may be on the lookout for a 1.4 petrol/diesel. As you were 🙂

We all knew this was inevitable. 😀

A somewhat premature welcome back to A2 ownership. The Boy must be convinced or coerced.

It’s been 5 long years. I have 2 EVs now as well as the Beetle which is now 21 years old and realistically too costly to run (and insure for an 18yo). I have a plan forming but I still need to win over the other half. It’s going to need a bit of carefully planned strategy, and flowers 😆

I have a really nice low mileage A2 for sale if you manage to convince him.

Did The Boy pass his test? I, and I'm sure others, have been waiting all week to find out.
Assuming he did, it's worth noting that the Institute of Advanced Motorists will allow him to join a course after three months and, with that under his belt, the question of NCAP ratings becomes almost irrelevant. Good drivers don't get involved in collisions!

Many of those new criteria relate to driver aids, lane assist, and the like, not so much the crumple zones and cabin integrity.
Mac.
That became important after 2010 ;).
Anyway in one or maybe even two generations of safety development it is quite a difference.

Alas no pass. Failed on observation at a roundwaiabout. Looking for a cancellation asap but the waiting list is horrendous unfortunately.
As a former ADI and more recently a defensive driving instructor, I'd say it does no harm not passing first time. A lot of young new drivers who pass first time start to believe they're good drivers and, when, almost inevitably, they crash, blame anything but their own lack of skills.
As for the waiting lists, perhaps try test centres outside your location, the backlogs vary around the country.

I had just ten hour-long lessons and passed my test first time. 19-year-old me was very pleased with myself, and I imagined that I was god's gift to driving. Like many young lads, I thought that I was invincible. A few weeks later, I spun a lightweight RWD Escort on a sharp bend and ended up facing the oncoming traffic. Although no harm was done to either myself, the vehicle or anything else, I recognised that was through nothing but luck. I pulled into a layby, gave myself a thorough talking to, and have been middle-aged ever since. :)
