I have been looking around this site and wish we had this car in the states! I love the design (which blows all american cars out of the water)....If I could import an A2 I would do it in a second. Good luck with your beautiful cars!:)

Thanks and welcome! It's not often we get something that you guys can't.

Out of interest, which model would you buy? A really fuel efficient 1.2 TDi or a 1.6FSi (still fuel efficient).

CAR magazine had an article a while ago on driving a smart car from the east to the west coast of America... was quite interesting to hear people's views on such a tiny car... made me wonder what the A2 would be like... They

BUT in a crash the heaviest car ALWAYS wins no matter how many airbags you have or stars in the NCAP rating... so an A2 will fare very badly in a crash with one of your SUVs... but glad you like them!

I think I would probably go with the TDI since it is so fuel efficient. :) Maybe Audi will someday send the A2 our way....Thanks!

Maybe I will send an email to Audi US and see what they say...:D

That would be sweet....to own the only A2 in the whole country. How much is the A2 in the UK?? Also, if anyone knows any dealers in the UK that might be able to help let me know. Thanks!

Corey Johnson

Don't know exactly, but the A2 in the UK starts at roughly £13,000 and can go as high as £26,000 with a full compliment of extras.

In the US I would guess it would be significantly cheaper, I have a friend in Delaware who bought a brand new S4 cheaper than I bought my A4 1.8! :(

Why do you think the A2 would be cheaper in the states? Do you mean if I import one it would be cheaper? Just wondering..

ALL cars seem to be cheaper in the States, you guys just don't have the high prices we have to endure over here. If Audi US agreed to supply you with one I assumed it would be cheaper than over here. If you have to import it from a european country (UK is probably not the best due to our RHD) then you would have to pay European prices + whatever so wouldn't be cheaper. I'm no expert, I've never imported a car so wouldn't know what was involved tbh.

If not direct from Audi US then check out the www.audi.de site in Germany - buy a used LHD and you'll save even more money! I did that with a 1.2 TDI and brought it back to the UK

Imagine having the only A2 in the US...it would be amazing! I'm sure you'd be very popular with all the car magazines!!

Hi!

Couldn't resist to give a small note here, see pictures at lower half of: http://www.audi-a2.co.uk/europe22.htm

I'm also wondering why A2 isn't imported to US. Certainly the main stream 'consumers' would stay far away from such a vehicle, but there are also plenty of environmentally aware people who could be perfect customers for Audi. Maybe Audi is afraid of their image...

You might remember how George W. cancelled government support of environmental car that would consume only 80-90mpg. One of the reason for cancellation was that such a goal is 'unrealistic'! His advisors must have forgotten Audi A2 1.2TDI, because it can do it already today [8D]

I very much doubt Audi US supplying a car... won't that technically mean they need to supply parts and servicing by law for at least 10 years? So a private import will be the way IMHO...

The CAR article I mentioned had a little box about how they got the smart over to the US - via Lufthansa air cargo. There and back (it had UK plates and a permit to be in the states for max 6 months) was just over £5000!!!!!!! But then to them time was of the essence and it was flown and not shipped...

Hi Corey ,
sorry but soon you are not going to be the only A2 in the US. It looks like my wife is going to be sent over from work and of course we will then have to bring our A2 with us.
It is actually quite easy to transport them over. Audi and the other car manufactures transport naturally on a ship and as a private person you can also pay for your car to be transported with one of these ships...it costs about 1000 euro. You have to then get it checked with the transport authority upon landing .... tax ; insurance etc has to be organised there too.
If you need help; write an we can get some of those information numbers for you. I think Stuart helped somebody transport one to Hong Kong maybe he'll have afew tips for you too.
Or if you know anyone in the US armed forces here in Germany:..... a lot of them bring their cars over and back!!

Transporting a car to the US for a short time (i think you can only keep you car in the US for a year at the most... but not sure exactly) is a much different game from actually importing a car. You have to go through a number of different layers of bureaucracy to actually get a car imported, and if it is a car that is not specifically made for the US market, it is very difficult indeed. US Customs actually recommends *not* to even try it.

Here are a few links for other interested Americans trying to bring an A2 over as an import. I am doing research on this matter myself so that I can hopefully become an A2 owner myself, and some of this information is very helpful.
