I bought my A2 new

I just wondered if this would be a short list or if a number of members also bought their A2 new?

I remember the experience well, the grumpy sales man told me never to come back. He had sold me an A2 just 12 months earlier but there had been a number of warranty claims. The service department had lifted the car under the B post, it drove really oddly. I did a deal for a replacement with the service manager for £1000.00. I would get a larger fuel tank, storage box, power point in boot, metallic paint, space saver spare, boot floor and air con etc. Couldn't sign fast enough, the car I was trading had seen a full years usage and was in a mess. Paid with a credit card before he could change his mind.

When I came to collect the sales man was not best pleased, I suspect the giveaway sale had messed up some bonuses.

I didn’t think there would be too many others but Albert and myself can’t be the only two partnered from original purchase?

Silver Y reg tdi SE with OSS - bought new after not even slightly ‘petrol head’ wife took one look and knew it was ‘right’. We went hoping to pick up an ex demo but got a good deal and had cash from Sun Life from an endowment mortgage to spend. Still going strong - well, now with son - so only sort of ours - the ‘new’ car bought to replace it is another tdi with OSS this time in dolphin grey, out of production by then so trailed down to Bristol from Yorkshire to get a good low mileage one. A2s have definitely been keepers!

Not new, but only 18 months old and 3000 miles, so it felt almost new. It was 2006, so after production had ended and there weren't any new ones on sale any more, so the best I could do was get the youngest, lowest mileage version of the model I wanted. Saved a bundle on the new price, too.

Well seeing you've had few replies from owners who bought new then I could chip in with nearly new. In Feb 2005 I bought a June 2004 TDi SE with about 8k on the clock. So called demo but more likely a staff car. Now done 80k.

It was a hassle to buy. Swindon Audi had just merged with Tetbury Audi and they put an ad in the paper listing vehicles from both sites without saying which was which. So I rang the Swindon Audi and booked a test drive with my selected A2. Turned up and they had another A2. Said the one I had chosen was in Tetbury and would this one do! Wrong colour, spec etc. Telephone calls were made and the salesman got really confused about the specs of the car in Tetbury. I was not happy having driven for an hour to get there. I went home and sent a long email to the marketing manager telling him what was wrong with his marketing and communications. Got a phone call imploring me to give them another chance. He would have the correct car delivered to Swindon and knock £1,000 off the price and throw in a full Autoglym valet. Got it for £11k - £6k off the list price when new :) Discovered the other day I still got the remnants of the Autoglym kit.

I'd love to be able to join in but when these stopped being an option new I was pootling around in a Smart car and had never even heard of an A2.

I don't qualify either though our 2003 FSI arrived as a birthday present for the wife in December 2005 (our youngest car at the time). It is still here though now has a sibling (my 2005 TDI).

I bought a new A2 in 2001 for my wife, she had it for 5 years and I had never really driven it and thought I should "upgrade" her car and bought her a brand new Mercedes A Class. She hated it and said that she wanted her A2 back, so we sold the 6 month old A Class and lost thousands on it, but I tracked down a really nice A2 for her and she was VERY happy.

She is not "into" cars at all, but she has said that she will never drive anything other than an A2, even if she won the lottery!!

True to her word, she got three numbers up in last week's lottery and she is sticking with the A2 :)

We looked at the A class too though were put off by the poor quality interior, the salesman telling us we didn't 'want' AC didn't help matters.

I bought my A2 new in 2000. It was what the germans call a 'Vorverwagen', pretty sure that's the wrong spelling. It was a car driven around Germany to show at Audi dealers. They broke it in for me (5,000 KM). I was the first owner after the factory. I think that counts. Still have her after over 17 years. Only 88,000 KM........

Bought mine new in Nov 2000 (Tdi) both my sons came back from the maternity unit it and the oldest just passed his test in it. 150000 killer miles inflicted on it by my 'local 'mobile hairdresser wife. Starts, drives half mile switches off. One hour later starts, drives 2 miles switches off etc etc. Repeat daily for 17 years and.......... we'll nothing. Original turbo, injectors and unbelievably exhaust. Only extra TLC due to hard use is oil change every 5k. She just can't kill it.

I wanted one in 2000. Went into the dealer just after they came out.
They laughed and told me it would be months of a waiting list and really rather looked down at me.

It was a lease deal through work, so I got a Merc A140 which I had for 3 years.
It was OK, the dealer was awful.

Conversely, a workmate bought an A2 once he could actually get one.

He still has it.

My old A140 - X79 VSG - last passed an MOT in 2013.

I imagine it has now been scrapped.

The new Passat that followed it, a 1.9TDI 4motion last passed a test in 2016.
I guess that's off the road now too.

Fast forward and My A2 I have now has only ever passed a test or had the smallest amount of repairs for the handbrake being a bit lightweight.

Go figure, as the saying goes.

I looked at a new 1.4i SE in 2001 when my son was born, we were put off by the small boot and faffing around with the false floor to get a push chair in, i’ve driven BM’s ever since.
Fast forward 17 years and my son has an A2 as his first car and a project for us to work on. I now realise what a good car it is apart from the ride, it’s horrific even with the new suspension components we’ve fitted.

Sorry, only just seen this.
I picked up my A2 on the 7th of November 2002, and have enjoyed most of the half a million miles plus that I have driven it since.
I was also considering an A class, but was put off by the very poor service I received at the Merc shop.

Mine's a bit Trigger's Broom now, but the exhaust lasted till somewhere around the half million.

Chapeau. That will take some beating.
