Hi all, haven't been on the forum recently, but coming back here with some bad news. Today, a moment of madness, I lost concentration on what's in front and bumped into another car. The other car has a tow bar and that really saved his bumper, no damage. But that didn't help mine! See for yourselves!

This is caused by the tow bar bending the metal protection beam behind the plastic bumper.

It then causes the outside of the beam to bend out. It also pushed my A/C radiator backwards towards the engine radiator. Now the fan behind the engine radiator is jammed!

So the repair will require whole new bumper complete, A/c and or engine radiator, one new fog lamp because the bracket is broken. Re-gas of the radiator, painting. Its not going to be cheap. and my local garage is trying to quote me. Does anyone know any good garage in London?

Just in case there is anyone with an old pre-2004 service bay flag because you've decided to get the new look, I would be interested in getting yours because the plastic clip that secures the flap was broken by the impact too. Has anyone has got a spare fog lamp?

Towbars-had my BRAND NEW Corolla for 3 days when the woman in front of me stalled her car on a roundabout (she took off OK so I checked right one last time and BANG, she had come to a stop in front. No brake lights of course. But my fault. Grrrrr) Anyway, her car was undamaged as I hit her towbar, me-about £800 damage. Double grrrrr.

My tow bar once sealed the fate of a Mercedes white van. His own fault, he was trying to nudge my rear bumper to get me to go faster (30mph limit, we were doing 35. Extensive damage to his front and radiator, none to myself, he had a sheepdog in the front seat , I suggested that maybe the dog should have been driving as they had more sense. He didnt see the joke and wanted to fight me, I was very happy to accept his invitation suggesting that I could make his front end match the Mercedes. So no fight.
Yeah, I was much fitter then.

I have a spare 2002 service hatch/flap/grill as I swopped mine for a 2004 model.

Contact me if interested.

Thanks all. I had a quick drop in to my local garage. Labour is in excess of 720 pounds + vat. Audi dealer quoted roughly 550 + vat for all the parts. It has to be on the insurance then... In that case, the little service bay flap will get replaced too.

Isn't it amazing how much damage can a tow bar create under slow impact! It'll even save the car from damage! Wonder if I can install tow bars at front and rear...

Humps, why not all the way round? On some cars, Sierra in particular, a shunt on to your tow bar can cause serious probs. Some towbars stick out a long way and look particularly vicious, I have a detachable on the Volvo, not much dearer than fixed now, but it was twice as much when I bought it. My friend works in a Ford main agent he said that they always remove the towbars from P/ex cars'cos people will not buy a car with a tow bar.
