I think I’ve reached the end

Look at a post earlier on
Fuse Box Fuse 18 fuel pump - fault code p1020
Does your fuel pump run for a few seconds when you unlock drivers door and open it?
A lot more info in that post.

I’ve been trying to listen for the fuel pump priming but don’t really hear anything.

When I first got the car, it broke down on the way to work. The RAC guy said that the fuel pump sounded like it had gone. So I replaced it. Ever since then problems re starting have arisen.

Sorry, I wasn't very specific. yes.
On the diesel it goes through a gravity valve, then ends up behind the offside front wheelarch with some sort of carbon filter on the end

Is this the same on the 1.6 fsi. There is a small plastic filter at the rear of the engine on the left side looking at the engine. I’ve been told this is a carbon filter that stops vapours from escaping g into the atmosphere. It is black instead of white, but informed they go like this after time and not to bother replacing it. Bette difficult to source apparently.

If problems stems from time of replacement of the fuel sender in tank would suggest this is root of problem?
Still under warranty?
There is a procedure to check the fuel delivery rate to the engine bay
Requires.to be 3 bar then the high pressure pump boost for injectors
The high pressure pump is cam shaft driven so at cranking speed will be less effective than once engine running?
Unlikely to be immobiliser issue as key symbol extinguishes in the vid

Sender pump in tank should be audible for few seconds at key position two prior to cranking buzzing sound

The fuel pump was replaced I think in July. This was on the recommendation of the RAC chap. The symptoms it’s presenting now are the same as then. I’m thinking maybe it wasn’t the fuel pump after all.

I would try a spray of easystart in the intake air pipe before going further

A call to rac if u have homestart may also get u a free code read and a second opinion

If it starts and runs with spray assistance it confirms fuelling issue

I’ve done three lots of EGR cleaning spray into the air intake over three weekends. Is this the same thing?

No
Easystart 300ml can aerosol
Available motor factors
Screwfix
Halfords

An Rac chap would probably have some in his van

You have someone spray in short bursts as u crank engine
Effectively acting as a carburettor

Gives the engine a burst of fuel
Then the high pressure pump should kick in

Ok, thanks. I’ll give that a go.

Who installed the fuel pump? Is it installed correctly?

I installed it myself. The pump works, once it starts. As far as I know, I did everything correct. There’s only 2 pipe ends and the electrical connection.

Hi. The fsi fuel pump should prime when you open the drivers door. If you can't hear it then i would assume you have a problem with one of the pressure sensors on your fuel system or the fuel pump relay or relay board. Another user had an issue with a loose connection on his fuel pump relay board. Try 'wiggling' relay and see if anything happens. If still no joy to avoid spending any unnecessary money i would have the car scanned or if your confident buy a car scanner and scan for any fault codes yourself.

The only thing left is the flaps. The plastic rod from the flap actuator is snapped so not open and closing the air intake flaps. Been told this shouldn’t have an effect on the non starting of the car. But it’s too big a job for me. I don’t want to take it to an Audi dealer as I don’t have that kind of cash. And a few garages I’ve been to say they wouldn’t touch an fsi engine with it being too complicated.
You're about 50 miles away from WOM at Stoke, acknowledged A2 experts. Would it not make sense to speak to them, and maybe get them to sort it out for you, both your immediate starting problem and also the flaps.

You can use a maintenance spray to start a engine I use GT85. i used it when I worked with garden machinery.

Agree totally speak to womautomotive.

When I put the new battery in, it continued to fault. I put the battery on charge as I’d tried many times to start it. Since then, I’ve done 3 overnight cold starts and it starts immediately each time. So, fingers crossed, and I’m not holding my breath, it may be ok.

Car is booked into a garage for a compression test next week. Possible outcomes are injectors (£226 each), high pressure fuel pump (£440), fuel pressure regulator (£141) and labour to do injectors (£324)

That’s some of the above or all.

And now the slow coolant leak seems to be progressing into a faster leak. Does anyone know if putting just straight water into the coolant tank (on a temporary basis) is a bad idea.

No sign of source of leak yet?
How much does it require to top up
If compression test has a poor outcome and head gasket needs replaced coolant requires drained anyway
