I want to buy an A2 and have a question

I am in a position to buy an A2 but I need one with a rear bench as I have 3 small children. This obviously limits my choice.

Plus, I would like one with the sunroof and leather, which limits my choice further still.

If I was to buy a 4 seat model now, could I buy a rear bench, sometime in the future, and convert my A2 to a rear bench?
Does the bench simply bolt in to where the usual 2 seats go or is a completely different set up?

I don't mind fabricating something to allow the bench to fit.

Can anyone shed any light on this please?

Thanks in advance.

Hi, the rear seats will not fit.

I am not sure if you can modify the car or bottom of the seats to fit, but it could also cause car insurance problems?

It is not possible to swap a four seat rear set for a 5 seat bench, the floor is different.

It would a significant change that is in the "not feasible" category (because nothing is impossible) but think of this conversion as not an option.

No - you cannot alter the 4 seat version to take the bench seat - the floor pan is completely different. There may be a specialist out there who would do a cut n swap type mod, but I'd not recommend making an adapter plate or anything - if the worst happened and you were in an accident, the results could be life shattering and you'd forever regret the adapter plan.

Your best bet is to get a 4 seat, put 2 in the back and one in the front and if/when a bench comes along, trade up or come to another arrangement.

Cheers,

Michael.

Not sure that you would be able to accomodate 3 child seats/ boosters or any combination thereof in the back of an A2 bit narrow me thinks.

I've got a bench and you can fit a britax isofix stage 2 child seat on the near side and 2 booster seats beside it. It's neat but do-able and there's lots of legroom for the older kids.

Yes,

that would be a challenge for any small car even current ones.

But the 5 seater can accommodate 5 adults in reasonable comfort or three children and two adults (and two of the children could sit on boosters on the back bench)

Yes spike. That's right. My retro fit leather is from a 2002 car and has a lap belt in the centre so it's really only fit for occasional use. For isofix seat users it's also worth reminding the bench seat only has 3 anchor points. So you can fit an isofix product on the left or the centre but not on the right. Odd but hey Ho. One of the A2s quirks.

I stand corrected, thank you hehehe

I can confirm the different floor as I changed the boot floor carpet on my new one and found the mounting holes to be different....

Nothing the Stanley knife couldn't sort :)

Yes, it was quite a shock when I discovered that we could not swap the seats over from my car to my wife's.

I was able to swap the front seat mounts easy enough but the holes in the floor are completely different.

I couldn't believe that Audi would use two different floor sections rather than have the holes in there for both types of seat!!
