Impressive MPG

Why should there be two different leagues for the 1.4 based on something as superficial as spec', but only one league for the TDI when there are a few distinct variants? The only thing about a Sport that affects its consumption is its wider tyres and heavier wheels.

I think he was 'thinking aloud' :p I agree though, would have to be categorised by engine only.

The massive difference in economy between the TDI and 1.4 petrol almost surprises me... and there's all that torque... sorry, I'm showing my bias again... :p

The difference in purchase cost between the two almost surprises me as well :D... otherwise I too would be driving a TDI!

Cheers

... MikeMars wins hands down. ...

Hmm I don't know about that, my MPG has really been off this summer. Still in the process of investigating the front brakes... And in any case, you are forgetting the 1.2s

But speaking of fuelly, they changed owners recently, and the new guys seem to be more adventurous. One of the things they were talking about was implementing a league table that a club or whatever could set up.

not sure I am doing the fuelly thing right?

This is what I have in my signature:

If I try the same thing using 'allans' and your signature number, I get this:

That's interesting... For what it's worth, I think the site is fairly poorly implemented - I get the impression it was made up as they went along without any real idea where they wanted to take it (e.g. Their unwillingness to create a dedicated app or API and the useless mobile site). It is a nice straightforward way of tracking your MPG though, without the need for a spreadsheet and so on. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

Cheers

Originally Fuelly was a 'hobby site' the original developers did in their spare time. Hence they were keeping it really simple.

Here are some highlights from the takeover post:

http://www.fuelly.com/forum/1263/Update-Fuelly-Data-for-Drivers
... A couple months ago we got started working on a new API for Fuelly. Our plan is to run our website and apps from this API and at some point open it up to partners as well. It will be the foundation for us to more rapidly iterate in the future. Users will be able to add many more data points to their fuel-ups like tire pressure, octane, fuel additives, location, altitude, etc. One of the more complex parts of this system will be a new way to organize vehicles in a more granular manner based on engine, transmissions, trim and other optional equipment. This will allow everyone to dig deeper when seeing how these items effect MPG. ...

... We plan to build a feature where groups can put their cars together and see them next to each other. This would be a nice way for members of Forums to see their cars on one page and see where everyone stands. ...

... We rolled out an update to the GasTracker+ app today with hopes of resolving the issues. Unfortunately we've already had one report of a major bug so we'll have to push out another update soon. That being said, we will be looking for iOS beta testers to help us do better testing on future releases. If you are an iPhone user and would like to help test future app releases please post here or send an email to support at fuelly.com.

GasTracker+ was an app developed by a 3rd party that worked off of scraping our regular website HTML pages. The app would scrape the pages and then parse the data and return the information via a native app interface. The problem was that small changes to the website would break the app. We are now powering part of the app via an API and the rest is still scraping. As soon as our new API is ready we plan to connect the app only to the API which will improve reliability.

GasTracker+ is just an intermediate solution (requires a data connection) until we can get our fully featured future version ready. The intent is to have an app that works offline so you can add fuel-ups even in the remotest places that will sync with Fuelly (cloud backup) when you have a data connection. ...

... We've ordered dozens of ODBII readers and are going to start testing them. We'll be looking for private beta testers to help us understand how more data can help the Fuelly community. ...

...
4 leagues :
TDI league
1.4 Sport league
1.4 SE league
FSI league

Obligation for the long 5th and 6th gear modders to declare their cars when entering the league! I run massive tyre, v-power only too! Best I had was close to 48mpg on a really long run at slightly above 70mph (was on Total premium juice). Beyond normal premium petrol, I can't say 102 octane made any difference because my old lambda sensor didn't like it!

Ok, you certainly win the 1.4TDI league. And I'm sure you're still averaging around 80mpg, even with your economy having been 'off' this summer.

Awful MPG, my PW (personal worst) after not seeing a M'way for over 2 weeks:

Thankfully 10 mins later, we're the right side of 60 once more:
